The NTSB is investigating a runway incursion that occurred last Friday morning at Charlotte (N.C.) Douglas International Airport involving a PC-12 turboprop single and CRJ200 regional jet. At about 10:17 a.m. that day, the PSA Airlines CRJ200–operated as US Airways Express Flight 2390–was cleared for takeoff on Runway 18L.

Atlanta-based Atlantic Southeast Airlines last night voluntarily grounded 60 of its Bombardier CRJ200s after an internal audit showed that maintenance crews might not have inspected their GE CF34 turbofans according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. ASA operates 110 of the fifty-seat regional jets, as well as 38 seventy-seat CRJ700s and a pair of 76-seat CRJ900s.

Bombardier CRJ200, Tallahassee, Fla., March 1, 2009–The ASA Airlines regional jet had a cockpit fire after external power was applied as the airplane was being prepared for flight. The captain and a flight attendant, the only occupants, evacuated the airplane via an airstair without injuries. The fire department extinguished the fire after it had burned an 18-inch hole through the left upper cockpit crown skin.
GE Aviation has signed an exclusive distributor agreement with Aviall Services that covers unique spare parts of the GE CF34-3 for the remaining life of the engine.
Atlantic Southeast Airlines sent furlough notices to 80 pilots last month as partner Delta Air Lines pares back Bombardier CRJ flying. The furloughs take effect February 9. Delta plans to cut its domestic capacity by 8 percent to 10 percent this year in response to falling travel demand.

GE Aviation is transferring responsibility for GE CF34-3 engine parts to Boeing subsidiary Aviall Services. Under the exclusive distributor agreement signed by GE Aviation and Aviall Services, Aviall will be responsible for forecasting, ordering and delivering all genuine OEM replacement parts that are unique to CF34-3 engines.
