The first revenue flight of an American Airlines Boeing 767-300ER equipped with Aviation Partners Boeing Blended Winglets left Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport Sunday night at 8:35 p.m. with 204 passengers on board and arrived ahead of schedule at London Heathrow Airport this morning at 10:26 a.m. local time.
More than 200 Gulfstream II and Hawker 800/800XP business jets now sport blended winglets developed by Aviation Partners (Stand No. 925) to improve performance by reducing time to climb and fuel consumption, or by increasing range.
They also can enhance the perceived value of an aircraft, according to the U.S.
company’s senior vice president of marketing, Dick Friel.

Following September 11, the FAA issued a requirement that all U.S. commercial aircraft and all foreign commercial aircraft flying to the U.S. be equipped with new fortified cockpit doors by April 2003. The company places the global market for Blended Winglet VIP and head-of-state upgrades at some 25 Boeing 757-200s, five 767-300ERs and 25 Boeing 737 NG and Classic airframes.
Gore Design Completions recently outfitted a Boeing 767-200ER in slightly less than six months, an accomplishment the San Antonio-based company claims is a record for the interior outfitting of a green widebody airliner in a VIP/ corporate configuration.

Be sure to glance left the next time you step aboard an American Airlines Boeing 757 or 767. The airline has awarded a contract to avionics maker Innovative Solutions & Support for flat-panel cockpit display upgrades in nearly 200 airplanes in its fleet that will dramatically alter the flight decks’ look.
Aviation Partners Boeing, the U.S. joint venture between “Blended Winglet” designer Aviation Partners and Boeing, last month received supplemental type certification for its winglet modification for the Boeing 757-200 airliner. The companies expect to start installing the eight-foot-two-inch tall Blended Winglets on Continental Airlines and Icelandair airplanes in July.
