GE is here with three major programs at various stages of development. The Passport 20, for Bombardier’s Global 7000 and 8000 large-cabin business jets, has already passed some rig tests. The GE Honda HF120, for the HondaJet and the (currently suspended) Spectrum Freedom, is scheduled for certification in 2012. Meanwhile, the HF80 turboprop is due for certification later this year.
German company BCT is exhibiting its adaptive machining systems for the manufacture and overhaul of gas turbine engine components. The company claims that by automatically compensating for part-to-part deviations and inaccurate clamping positions, its system can improve accuracy and throughput while lowering costs.

CFM International (Hall 2 Stand B149) is studying a next generation of turbofans to power single-aisle commercial aircraft, hoping to secure a role in future replacements for the Airbus A320 family and the Boeing 737. Under the LEAP-X advanced turbofan program, joint venture partners Snecma and General Electric are pursuing innovations such as increased use of composite materials in engines.
BBA Aviation’s engine repair and overhaul company, Dallas Airmotive, has expanded PW305 capability at its Dallas Love Field (DAL) facility. New tooling allows the company to replace IBRs (integrally bladed rotors) on the PW305A, the engine that powers the Learjet 60. The first two engines to receive this treatment were completed in April. IBR replacement on the PW305A eliminates the requirement for inspection every 300 hours.
GKN Aerospace announced here at Farnborough that it is expanding its metallic and composite manufacturing techniques. Acquisitions have boosted its metallic capabilities, while the company’s Composites Research Center is nearing completion of three years’ work on the integrated wing, advanced technology verification program.
The UK’s GKN Aerospace (Booth No. 4918), a supplier of aerostructures, propulsion systems and transparencies, is setting its sights on the business aviation market, announcing that it intends to make its presence in the business aviation engines sector a core focus over the next five years.
