PremiAir is expanding its fixed-wing activities, by establishing a new charter and management operation at London Biggin Hill Airport, together with an additional maintenance facility.

London Biggin Hill Airport (Booth No. 953) has started a new development program. The airport will add a new 54,000-sq-ft parking/ramp area for business aircraft adjacent to the passenger terminal by mid-June; a new double-span hangar for business aircraft by early 2011; and a new hotel in time for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Rizon Jet is in the final stages of construction for two new FBOs in Europe and the Middle East. In July, it expects to open almost identical hangars with adjoining lounges and offices at London Biggin Hill Airport and at its Doha headquarters in Qatar.

London Biggin Hill Airport (Booth No. 3593) has finally received local government approval to build a 75-room hotel after 15 years of lobbying. According to the privately owned airport, the four-star hotel is vital to its growth strategy and that of its tenants–providing convenient accommodation for visiting flight crew, technical staff and other visitors.

oMiddle East charter provider Rizon has begun work on a new FBO and hangar facility at Doha Airport in Qatar. Rizon, which is headquartered at London Biggin Hill Airport, plans to build the new FBO in modular fashion so that it can be moved to the new Doha International Airport when it opens in 2011.

A family of three were killed July 19 when the Hughes 500 helicopter they had chartered for a sightseeing flight over the Kentish countryside crashed shortly after takeoff from Biggin Hill Airport. It was not clear what caused the 10 a.m. crash near the village of Cudham in the Sevenoaks area.

A new executive aircraft handling operation was launched last month at the London-area Royal Air Force Northolt base (EGWU). Premier Service is being offered through the new Northolt Handling  joint venture between Regional Airports Ltd., which owns Biggin Hill (EGKB) and Southend (EGMC) airports, and Serco, which operates a line-maintenance facility at the airfield.

The Air Partner initiative at Biggin Hill comes as the airport reports business jet movements increased by 25 percent last year and it foresees 30-percent further growth this year. Additional infrastructure development at the southeast London site may draw on the proceeds of parent company Regional Airports’ planned disposal of its interest in Southend Airport on the north bank of the Thames river estuary east of London.

Executive charter group Air Partner has received a green light to proceed with its plans to create a purpose-built business aviation enclave at London Biggin Hill Airport (Booth No. 1653). Valued at almost $14 million, the project includes construction of a 40,000-sq-ft hangar on a site leased from the privately run airport.
