Second-quarter revenues at Textron Aviation, which includes Cessna and Beechcraft, climbed $623 million year-over-year, to $1.18 billion, reflecting the Beechcraft acquisition in late March and higher jet deliveries. Textron Aviation delivered 70 turbine business aircraft during the quarter–36 Cessna Citations and 34 Beechcraft Kings Airs, up from 20 jets and 14 King Air turboprops in the same period last year.

Textron Aviation’s TRU Simulation+Training has announced an agreement with sister company Bell Helicopter to develop the first level-D, full flight simulator for the Bell 525 Relentless medium helicopter.

TRU will take care of all the steps from design to installation at Bell’s Fort Worth, Texas headquarters. The simulator will be FAA- and EASA-certified and is expected to be operational in the first quarter of 2016.

Textron’s Bell Helicopter brought four helicopters to its Farnborough Airshow display (Exhibit Area L2), including a mockup of the Bell 525 Relentless outfitted in search-and-rescue configuration and a mockup of the 505 Jet Ranger X, which just concluded a three-month European tour.

A 407GX is also on the Bell static display, as is a 429 in emergency-medical service configuration. The 429 also just finished a three-month demonstration tour. During FIA14, a corporate-configured Bell 429 is flying demonstration flights.

Textron subsidiaries Bell Helicopter and TRU Simulation + Training announced an agreement today for TRU to complete the design, development, manufacturing, installation, testing and certification of the Bell 525 Relentless level-D full-motion flight simulator. The simulator for the new “super-medium” twin-engine helicopter will employ TRU’s ultra-high-definition visual system with 240-degree horizontal by 80-degree vertical field of view.

The first Bell 525 Relentless super-medium twin helicopter is moving closer to final assembly at Bell Helicopter’s plant in Amarillo, Texas. Matt Hasik, Bell’s senior vice president of commercial programs, told AIN that the three main cabin sections will be joined within the next few weeks. He also said that the first carbon-fiber, all-composite main rotor blade for the 525 has been completed and is undergoing testing.

Fort Worth, Texas-based Bell Helicopter is riding the success of the upcoming Bell 505 Jet Ranger X and the two-year-old Bell 429 to increased sales activity in Europe. According to Patrick Moulay, managing director for Europe and Russia, sales activity was up 37 percent in 2013 versus 2012 after “more than doubling” the year before.

“We are investing in Europe,” Moulay told AIN, including a new customizing hub in Prague so EU customers can pick up their EASA-certified aircraft closer to home instead of traveling to the U.S. or Canada.
