BBA Group has separated its Oxford-based piston aircraft sales and support operation from its Signature Flight Support operations in the UK and France. On January 1 this business reverted to its former name, CSE Aviation, having previously been rebranded as Signature Aircraft Engineering.
Flight schools must innovate to survive, since airlines are no longer able to sponsor tuition and a pilot career has lost its appeal amid headlines announcing furloughs, according to Oxford Aviation Training (OAT). The company said a UK pilot shortage within five years is a foregone conclusion, while elsewhere in Europe pilot demand “is expected to outstrip [training] capacity significantly starting in 2004.”
Richard Ramsden joined Minneapolis-based Wells Fargo Equipment Finance as a
v-p specializing in corporate aircraft loans and leases. Ramsden came to the company from Bombardier Capital, where he was manager of aircraft finance.
The BBA Group sold its Signature Aircraft Engineering rotorcraft maintenance business and Signature Helicopters charter operation to the UK’s McAlpine group for an undisclosed sum. The companies, which are based, respectively, at Blackbushe and Denham Airports in southern England, will be combined with McAlpine’s existing aviation services subsidiaries with annual revenues of around $23 million.
BBA Aviation engine repair and overhaul company Dallas Airmotive will open a regional turbine center (RTC) in the Pittsburgh area by the end of this month. It will be located at Washington County Airport about 20 miles south of Pittsburgh International Airport.

The 5,300-sq-ft facility initially will provide hot-section inspection services for Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A turboprops and JT15D turbofans, as well as fan repairs on JT15Ds and power-section repair on PT6As.
BBA Group, parent company of Signature Flight Support FBOs and the Dallas Airmotive maintenance center, has acquired Barrett Turbine Engine Company. Barrett specializes in the repair and overhaul of turbine-engine components, particularly for the Honeywell TFE731 series. No changes in the management or location of the Augusta, Ga., company are planned, said BBA Aviation officials.
BBA Aviation and Executive Jet announced on August 13 they had signed a deal in late June that will make BBA Aviation’s Signature Flight Support chain “the exclusive FBO in all contiguous U.S. states and Alaska and in all current and all future cities for FBO services.”
Less than a month after acquiring Marathon Flight Services at Kissimmee (Fla.) Gateway Airport and Carolina Air Center in Hilton Head, S.C., Signature Flight Support this week bought Regent Aviation’s FBOs at St. Paul Downtown and Rochester International Airports in Minnesota.
Gulfstream Aerospace acquired the maintenance operation of BBA Aviation’s facility at London Luton Airport, making the facility the first Gulfstream-owned service center outside the U.S. The facility will continue to provide maintenance for Citations, Falcons and Hawkers, as well as all Gulfstreams.
