Emteq has introduced a universal USB charging device for aircraft cabins. The new IntelliUSB SR can charge most portable devices by detecting the initial voltage when the device is plugged in, then selecting the proper charging technology. The three technologies supported are Apple’s iOS, Samsung (for Android devices) and Battery Charging 1.2 (used on many phones in Asia).
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration is evaluating a request from Boeing to fly a 787 to test potential fixes to allow the airplane to re-enter service, the agency confirmed on Tuesday. The FAA gave no word on when it might respond to Boeing, however, nor would it confirm reports that the airplane could fly as early as this week.

The RF80-M aircraft battery charger/analyzer incorporates new advanced micro-controller technology with a programmable touchscreen display, while building on the company’s existing power circuitry and durability from its previous models. Battery analysis can be performed either in manual mode or by utilizing the system’s programmable modes. The RF80-M will store up to 100 battery processing programs.

CRS Jet Spares is offering a new low-current/constant-voltage battery trickle charger that can be used to float-charge nicad and lead-acid mainship batteries. According to Armando Leighton Jr., the company’s CEO, the unit is a low-cost way to maintain the charge of batteries in storage or on aircraft so that fully charged batteries are available when needed.
Start Pac (Booth No. 1734) is here at Heli-Expo’09 displaying the first lithium battery-powered ground power unit (GPU). The Li2800QC lasts twice as long as lead-acid batteries and is 42 percent lighter and 33 percent smaller than other batteries, according to Smart Pac.
Aero Specialties (Booth No. 1639) introduced a self-contained, remote-control towing device designed to allow a single operator to position an aircraft safely. Called the iTowbot, the tug can handle aircraft up to 15,000 pounds gross weight.
