A Swiss federal prosecutor confirmed today that he will indict Moritz Suter, André Dosé and four former employees with management functions of the defunct regional airline Crossair for homicide by neglect in connection with the crash of an Avro RJ100 during approach on Zurich Airport on Nov. 24, 2001. The prosecutor announced plans to bring charges last November, but he identified the suspects only by their initials.

Swiss International Airlines (formerly Crossair) on May 28 took delivery of the final Embraer ERJ-145 of a firm order for 25, thus completing the first phase of a fleet-renewal program scheduled to introduce the first production 70-seat Embraer 170 next spring. Also the 600th Embraer regional jet delivered, the 50-seat jet flew from São José dos Campos, Brazil, to Basel, Switzerland, via Natal, Brazil, the Cap Verde Islands and Casablanca.

A Swiss federal prosecutor indicted six executives of the former regional airline Crossair for homicide and injuries by neglect. The charges stem from the crash of an Avro RJ100 on Nov. 24, 2001, during final approach to Zurich Airport in which 24 of the 33 occupants died.

New Swiss guidelines on corporate governance have prompted top-level changes at Hirschmann Industrial Holding, parent company of Jet Aviation. Thomas Hirschmann has stepped down as chairman of the holding company’s board of directors and has been replaced by former Crossair chairman Moritz Suter. Hirschmann, who had been on the board since 1984, has retained his position as CEO of the Jet Aviation group of companies.

The airline grounded one Airbus A321, two MD-83s and 17 regional aircraft on March 30, which also marked the beginning of the summer timetable.

Swiss International Air Lines last month announced another restructuring program that will shrink its regional fleet by at least 13 aircraft and its staffing by 800 to 1,000 positions over the next 18 months. 

To ensure a supply of feeder traffic into its Zurich hub, Swiss plans to extend its code-share agreements with regional airlines, as it has done with Cirrus Airlines on its Lugano-Zurich link.
