BAE Systems’s asset management division has reported an uptick in demand for its portfolio of pre-owned Avro RJ and 146 regional jets. The UK-based group is also taking on more contracts to remarket other manufacturers’ aircraft and is seeing growth in its product support and engineering activities.
Cobham Aviation Services Australia is buying a pair of BAE 146s that it currently leases from the asset management division of BAE Systems. The company has a fleet of 17 BAE 146s and Avro RJs that it uses to provide corporate shuttles for several mining companies and for carry freight at night.
BAE Systems and Design Q have unveiled the latest cabin concept for the Avro Business Jet, an executive version of BAE’s Avro RJ and BAE 146 regional jets. The concept is known as ABJ Fusion, and the cabin on display at the NBAA Convention in October was the third of five designs created by Design Q on behalf of BAE Systems. The first two were introduced at Ebace in Geneva this past spring.

The latest is a late-model Avro RJ100, which joins Presidential Flight of Abu Dhabi’s existing executive RJ70. The interior dimensions of the bigger RJ100 version allowed for a split-cabin configuration.

Mitsubishi Aircraft has hired the engineering division of BAE Systems Regional Aircraft to provide design integration and certification services for the development of its new MRJ regional jet. The program will focus on the integration of the aircraft’s propulsion system, specifically on the Pratt & Whitney PW1000G engine and its pylons, nacelles, auxiliary power units and fuel systems.
BAE Systems announced last month that it has contracted to deliver a 46-passenger Avro business jet corporate shuttle version of the BAe 146-200 regional jet to UK-based motorway infrastructure construction firm Gill Group. The interior work will be done by Inflite Engineering Services at London Stansted Airport, with oversight from Bristol-based Waypoint Aviation.
