Aviation Partners (Stand 128) is introducing its Falcon 50 blended-winglet modification to the European market with the arrival of its flight test aircraft in the static display at EBACE 2012. The aircraft made the 3,129-nm trip from Seattle’s Boeing Field to Geneva International Airport with one stop, in Keflavik, Iceland, according to pilots Dave Hurley, Bo Corby and John Reinhold.

Aviation Partners filed a response yesterday to Airbus’s pre-emptive lawsuit that seeks to invalidate an Aviation Partners patent for blended winglets. This patent–filed on Feb. 1, 1993, and granted Sept. 20, 1994–is for technology that is the foundation of the Seattle-based company. Since patents perish after 20 years, this one will expire in about 12 months.

Aviation Partners has received an STC from the U.S. and Canada for its winglets

Transport Canada has granted Aviation Partners (API) Canadian supplemental type certificate (STC) approval for its high Mach blended winglets on the Falcon 900 series.

Aviation Partners and Aviation Partners Boeing said their blended winglet technology has saved airlines and private jet operators from burning two billion gallons of jet-A. This represents a global reduction in CO2 emissions of almost 21.5 million tons, the company said. Aviation Partners winglets are currently flying on more than 3,700 airplanes and 21 different models.

The first revenue flight of an American Airlines Boeing 767-300ER equipped with Aviation Partners Boeing Blended Winglets left Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport Sunday night at 8:35 p.m. with 204 passengers on board and arrived ahead of schedule at London Heathrow Airport this morning at 10:26 a.m. local time.

DAE Capital, the aircraft leasing and financial business arm of Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE), has signed a deal with Aviation Partners Boeing (APB) to buy 50 shipsets of Blended Winglets for its new 737-700/800 Next Generation aircraft.

No fewer than 10 Boeing 757-200s–both VIP and head-of-state aircraft–now benefit from Aviation Partners’ Performance Enhancing Blended Winglet Systems, the company reported as it prepared for business at EBACE this year. The company places the global market for Blended Winglet VIP and head-of-state upgrades at some 25 Boeing 757-200s, five 767-300ERs and 25 Boeing 737 NG and Classic airframes.

Aviation Partners expects to obtain an STC early this month on its blended winglets for the Hawker 800 series. The project has been in the works for a couple of years. “Manufacturing problems,” failure to obtain certain OEM data and changes in FAA certification methods lengthened the STC process.
