Dassault Aviation could launch an all-electric Falcon business jet program in 2014 or 2015, said company engineers at a conference held by the ASTech Paris Region aerospace cluster at the Paris Air Show in June.

With an eye toward ever-increasing environmental awareness, Dassault Aviation is aiming for 2020 entry into service for new technologies that will reduce the fuel burn of future Falcon business jets by 40 percent from that of current in-production Falcons.
Honeywell will supply avionics and auxiliary power units (APUs) for Aviation Capital Group’s fleet of 68 new Airbus A320s in a deal valued at more than $40 million. The avionics suite for ACG includes an enhanced ground proximity warning system, air data inertial reference system, emergency locator transmitters, solid-state flight data recorder, solid-state cockpit voice recorder, and flight management system.
Honeywell has been chosen by Embraer to provide the air-conditioning and temperature-control system for the Brazilian manufacturer’s Legacy 450 and Legacy 500 executive jets. The Legacy’s air- conditioning system will use bleed air from either the Honeywell 36-150 auxiliary power unit or the Honeywell HTF7000 engines to cool the cabin. According to Honeywell, the AC-5000 series of environmental control systems deliver high reliability.
Having carved out a reputation in the military field for high-performance actuators, auxiliary power units and other power/motion systems, Bental Industries is to take its expertise into the commercial field. This move was sparked by the takeover of Bental by environmental control system specialist TAT Technologies.

But this kind of testing isn’t entirely foreign at the company–over the past few years it has been running military aircraft APUs and engines on jet fuel made from coal and natural gas for the U.S. Air Force.
BBA Aviation ERO (engine repair and overhaul) is expanding its global reach. The parent company of Dallas Airmotive, H+S Aviation and Premier Turbines has extended its international service support network with the opening of regional centers in Johannesburg, South Africa, and Mumbai, India. The centers will provide service to include troubleshooting, parts support, borescope inspection and on-wing hot section inspection and repair.

Microturbo’s new auxiliary power unit, dubbed the e-APU, made its first run on a test bench in Toulouse, France, late in December. According to the Safran subsidiary, initial tests have been successful. With an electric power output of 15 to 90 kWe, the e-APU is targeted at new business aircraft and helicopters. The test program will continue throughout this year, notably to demonstrate a start-up ceiling of 41,000 feet.
