India’s Air Deccan operated its inaugural revenue flight with one of six 48-seat ATR 42-320s on August 25, between its home city of Bangalore and Hubli, in the southwestern province of Karnataka. French-Italian regional turboprop manufacturer Avions de Transport Régional (ATR) is considering a new aircraft to complement its 46/50 passenger ATR 42 and 68/74-seat ATR 72 regional turboprop aircraft. CEO Stéphane Mayer confirmed that the airframer is studying a larger turboprop, probably to seat between 90 and 100 seats, and options including a two- or three-member family. “A stretch [of today’s ATR 72] is not a solution,” he said.
The NTSB has recommended that the FAA require inspections of Hamilton Sundstrand 568F propellers in service for more than six years or 11,700 hr, after a propeller blade separated from its hub on an ACES Colombia ATR 42-500 on January 12. The recommendation covers serial numbers 1 through 1698 and calls for an immediate determination of a new inspection and repair threshold.
