Aerospatiale Alenia ATR 42-320, Lubbock, Texas, Jan. 27, 2009–The crew of the FedEx ATR 42 that landed 300 feet short of the runway on an ILS approach to Preston Smith International Airport survived, with the ATP-rated captain suffering serious injuries and the commercial first officer sustaining minor injuries.
An ATR 42 cargo airplane operated by Empire Airlines for FedEx ran off the runway early this morning at Preston Smith International Airport in Lubbock, Texas, after arriving on a flight from Fort Worth Alliance Airport. Both crewmembers walked away from the crash but went to the hospital for evaluation and treatment of minor injuries.

American Airlines sister company AMR Leasing signed a contract to sell and lease back the 39 ATR 72s flown by American Eagle unit Executive Airlines. India’s Air Deccan operated its inaugural revenue flight with one of six 48-seat ATR 42-320s on August 25, between its home city of Bangalore and Hubli, in the southwestern province of Karnataka. A second flight marked the start of regular service between the regional cities of Hyderabad and Vijayawada the next day. The new airline took delivery of its first leased ATR on August 8. The second arrived in Bangalore two weeks later.
Colombian carrier Aces will return eight ATR 42 turboprops to leasing companies as part of a reorganization plan by parent group Alianza Summa.
