AgustaWestland’s Grand New helicopter has received European certification for conducting area navigation (Rnav), global satellite navigation (GNSS) and vertical approach guidance (SBAS/LPV) approaches. The AW109 family member is the first helicopter to receive these approvals from the European Aviation Safety Agency.

Hawker Beechcraft Services (HBS) has begun scheduling wide area augmentation system (Waas) upgrades on Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21-equipped King Air 200/300s. This installation follows the introduction of the King Air C90GTi upgrade announced last March. According to an HBS spokesman, the King Air 200/300 Waas upgrade offers operational flexibility and cost savings associated with direct and curved area navigation (Rnav) routes.

Emteq Nets Challenger 850 Completions Work
Avionics, maintenance and lighting specialist Emteq (Booth No. 1265) of New Berlin, Wisconsin, has received two interior completion contracts from Midcoast of St. Louis Downtown Airport in Cahokia, Illinois. The projects, to convert Bombardier Challenger 850s, will be completed at ACS-NAI, Emteq’s facility in Winnipeg, Canada, for delivery in the third quarter of this year.

After a protracted gestation period, the Senate unanimously passed its FAA reauthorization bill late yesterday, sending it to a conference committee that will reconcile differences with the House version approved last May. General aviation groups cheered the measure, which contains no user fees for GA but modestly raises the federal excise taxes on jet-A and aviation gas that GA pilots pay into the aviation trust fund.

Universal Avionics spent much of the last year working with FAA officials trying to come up with a way to upgrade the customers’ flight management systems for Waas LPV approach capability under a basic field approval rather than having to submit to the cumbersome supplemental type certification process.
