FltPlan is offering its free aircraft weight-and-balance program via its website and mobile apps for more than 400 models. Since the program was launched 18 months ago, pilots have created 38,000 customized aircraft weight-and-balance profiles. In the past six months alone, FltPlan has added 165 aircraft models, ranging from a Cessna 150 to a Gulfstream G280. The cross-platform format works on the web, as well as on iOS, Android and BlackBerry devices, FltPlan said.
InTheAirNet announced that it received U.S. patent approval September 10 for a new in-flight entertainment (IFE) system for commercial and business aircraft. This is one of a recent series of InTheAirNet patent applications relating to airlines and private jets that the Irvine, Calif.-based electronics specialist believes will reduce both cost and weight for the end user and still provide full features, including the connectivity on which the current market is focused.
Landmark Aviation has launched an enhanced version of its mobile application. Connect 2 Landmark provides a convenient link to company news and the service provider’s customers can use it to find amenity descriptions, runway maps, directions, weather conditions and frequencies for all Landmark locations. While the previous version of the application allowed access to most of this information, in the new program customers can view MRO offerings, as well as browse the company’s current charter fleet and request charter quotes from their mobile devices.
Aircell will expand its Gogo Biz service to include voice capabilities beginning October 1. Gogo Biz was launched in 2009 as an Internet-only service in the business aviation market. Because Gogo Biz operates on Aircell’s air-to-ground technology, its voice calls are among the clearest in aviation, on par with mobile phone calls on the ground, the company claims.

Dassault Falcon is offering a new app for mobile and tablet users. The Falcon Customer Service app offers instant touch-call features for AOG hotlines, the technical center, spares and field service. The app also helps operators locate service centers and Falcon pilot contacts.
Emteq has introduced a universal USB charging device for aircraft cabins. The new IntelliUSB SR can charge most portable devices by detecting the initial voltage when the device is plugged in, then selecting the proper charging technology. The three technologies supported are Apple’s iOS, Samsung (for Android devices) and Battery Charging 1.2 (used on many phones in Asia).
Jet Support Services (JSSI) launched the MyJSSI Mobile App for clients with Apple or Android devices. It streamlines the process for submitting monthly hours and allows customers to manage contracts, make payments and update contact information from their mobile devices. MyJSSI also allows JSSI to push notifications to its customers. New features include an intuitive navigational design, a program-selection tool that provides specific program information by aircraft type, Google map integration, interactive media and a FAQ section.
Flying with iOS and Android moving-map and flight-planning apps has become common in cockpits worldwide, and Sporty’s Pilot Shop vice president of product development John Zimmerman knows firsthand that even with an intuitive touchscreen interface, flying apps can be complicated. That’s why Sporty’s announced during Sun ’n Fun 2013 that it has developed training courses to teach pilots the intricacies and the tricks for flying with tablets.
