London-based Andrew Winch Designs has created an interior for super-yacht owners who want their AW189 to have the same “level of detail and entertainment technology” as their ships. The cabin features six full seats enhanced with built-in “whisper-dish” noise-cancellation systems. A glass dividing bulkhead, situated between the cabin and cockpit, displays flight information and entertainment.
An undisclosed Middle Eastern client has signed an agreement with Jet Aviation Basel for the completion of a BBJ3. Completion work on the cabin interior, designed by Studio E/motions, is scheduled to begin in the third quarter. The layout for the BBJ3 includes a spacious living area, a conference/dining room and a private bedroom with en suite bathroom.
London-based Andrew Winch Designs is well on its way to establishing its brand in the aviation sector, having worked on 12 completions and two refurbishments in the past decade. The company will end the year with the delivery of an ACJ, A340 and a BBJ2 (based on the 737-800), said Jim Dixon, Andrew Winch’s director and head of the aviation design department, told AIN here at the show yesterday. The company also expects to deliver two more next year.
A consortium of investors led by Switzerland-based Van Lattmann Corporate Communications (VLCC) has embarked on an ambitious project to operate VIP versions of the Airbus A380 as flying cruise liners. The first of the aircraft is provisionally named the Dicke Berta after the German “Big Berta” World War I gun.
Helicopter manufacturer Eurocopter, designer Andrew Winch and luxury yacht specialist Edmiston introduced a stylish new completion scheme for the EC 155 at the Monaco Yacht Show last fall.
The helicopter features raised, polished stainless-steel stripes on both sides of
the exterior. The aircraft’s belly and top fuselage are painted as faux teak “as a
reference to yacht aesthetics.”
Thus far, the bizliner completions sector has remained comparatively solid despite the effects of the recession on the rest of the industry. That relative immunity was most recently underscored by the partnership of London-based Andrew Winch Designs and Jet Aviation of Basel, Switzerland, which delivered a highly customized Boeing Business Jet for a private client.
Jet Aviation Basel has delivered the first of three Boeing Business Jets (BBJ) with Andrew Winch Designs cabin interiors to an undisclosed customer. London-based Andrew Winch has been a specialist in the VIP aircraft and yacht interiors since 1996. The aircraft is the first BBJ to be outfitted at the company’s new widebody hangar, which was completed in May 2008.
This year’s Aircraft Interiors Expo is history, and indications are that the show has weathered its initial growing pains. In Hamburg, Germany, for the first time, 241 show exhibitors welcomed more than 4,000 visitors to the new venue at the Hamburg Messe convention center from April 8 to 11.
Computer-generated virtual cabin concepts for Boeing’s latest large bizliners are appearing with some regularity as the order book for the executive/VIP versions of the company’s 787 and 747-8 grow.
One of the most recent is a 787 interior from BMW Group DesignworksUSA, created for a fictitious Russian client in his mid-30s–a global traveler who would be spending a significant amount of time in the air.
It can take up to two years to outfit a VIP widebody jet. Even the video featuring the Andrew Winch Designs scheme for a Boeing 787 on the Lufthansa Technik (LHT) booth here (No. 1240) took four months to complete. LHT has a widebody slot open in September, but it is already the subject of negotiations and may be taken soon.
