Gulfstream Aerospace appointed Brent Monroe vice president of North American sales for the western division. In his new role, he leads a sales team whose territory includes the Western U.S. states, as well as Alaska and Hawaii, and the Canadian provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Monroe, who is based in Dallas, has more than 20 years of experience in both military and business aviation, particularly in the Midwest region.
Bell Helicopter on July 5 opened its new 38,000-square-foot Canadian supply center at Calgary International Airport in Canada. “Our alignment with the front runners in the Canadian airport business development market certainly lends itself to strong OEM representation for years to come,” said Colin Bartole, manager of the new center.
The first Bombardier Challenger 890 corporate shuttle entered service in late February with Calgary-based Suncor Energy, a major North American developer of oil sands. The CRJ900 regional jet derivative, which joins Suncor’s Challenger 850 corporate shuttle, will be used to transport workers from the company’s Calgary headquarters to its oil sands in Fort McMurray, Alberta.
The Canadian Business Aircraft Association (CBAA) will return to one of its favorite venues next year when it holds its annual convention at the Calgary International Airport July 9 through 12. Skyservice will serve as host FBO for the trade show and static display. Past CBAA meetings have featured an outdoor barbecue adjacent to the aviation museum on the airport.
The high price of oil means busy times for helicopter operators in northern Alberta, Canada, as the major oil companies such as Imperial Oil (ExxonMobil), Shell, Petro-Canada and Total remove it from the ground as fast as they can.
Company president Paul Spring said it will be used mostly in support of Phoenix’s work in the “oil sands” area of northern Alberta, where shallow-lying bitumen is processed into oil.
