More than two years after Tac Air filed a Part 16 complaint with the FAA over the operation of an FBO built and owned by the airport operator at Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport/Lovell Field, the agency has finally issued its ruling, finding the airport authority did not violate its federal grant obligations. The situation became the centerpiece of the private ownership vs.

The FBO occupies a historic WWII-vintage complex on the north end of the airport near the Long Island Sound and sustained approximately $1 million in damage and cleaning costs to its terminal and hangars, forcing it to relocate temporarily.
UK air navigation services provider NATS has started a 14-week “consultation” process through January 21 to gather comments from airlines and other interested groups on proposed airspace changes surrounding Gatwick and London City airports. The consultation marks the first step in a wider program of proposed changes under the UK Civil Aviation Authority’s Future Airspace Strategy, an ATC modernization plan for the UK and Ireland.
Upgrades are coming to Kansas City, Mo.’s two main airports, thanks to the hard work of staffers at the Kansas City Aviation Department. Both Kansas City International Airport and Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport have received grants totalling nearly $12 million for improvement projects that range from taxiway upgrades, paving and a fire-fighting vehicle storage facility. Neither airport is supported by general tax fund revenues–both rely exclusively on airport user charges and grants for administration, promotion, operation and maintenance.

FBO chain Sheltair has joined the Avfuel network, announcing the rebranding of its 14 locations yesterday here at the show. As the first indication of the new relationship, the company is displaying at the Avfuel booth (No. N5100). “This group here is a very professional group, a very thoughtful group in how they do things, they have super people in the marketing area, great people in operations, we’re really proud to be associated with Sheltair,” said Avfuel president and CEO Craig Sincock.
Gulfstream Aerospace has added three specially outfitted Field and Airborne Support Team (Fast) vehicles to its support network. The new rapid-response Gulfstream Fast vehicles are based at Van Nuys Airport near Los Angeles, William P. Hobby Airport in Houston and New York-area Teterboro Airport.
Each vehicle has a team of two or three technicians and is designed to support operators facing an AOG. Onboard capabilities include line service repairs, engine changes, post-flight and storage inspections, minor scheduled inspections and minor cabin interior repairs.
Universal Weather and Aviation has enhanced its free iPad app, Universal Mobile, with the integration of its UVTripPlanner tool. The system now provides the same data that is used and audited daily by the Houston-based company, such as information on worldwide airports, FBOs, ground handlers, in-flight caterers, ground transport handlers and hotels. Among its utilities, the app allows operators to check fuel pricing and uplift requests through the UVair fuel program.
