Crew and passengers of private aircraft flying into Miami for Super Bowl XLI on February 4 need to keep important security changes in mind. The FAA is expected to issue a TFR that will cover a 30-nm radius around Dolphin Stadium, effective from at least two hours before the game until two or more hours after it. That means no general aviation traffic into or out of area airports.

I am sure we all recognize that working on an airport ramp is risky business, regardless of the particular job. Just being out there can put you at risk. On some ramps it appears to be a game of dodgeball, with equipment going in every direction. People walking around the ramp really have to pay attention and never just assume that the equipment driver will practice see-and-avoid.

Guy Minor, aviation safety program manager with the FAA’s Oakland Flight Standards District Office, presented Apex Aviation the 2004 Certificate of Excellence for “actively participating in the FAA Aviation Technician Training Program.” This Diamond Award marks the third consecutive year the FAA has honored Apex.

Teterboro (N.J.) Airport (TEB) now has two full-service U.S. Customs and Border Protection facilities with US-VISIT capability located adjacent to Atlantic Aviation (midfield) and at Jet Aviation (south end). The agency said the new capability should improve traffic flow and safety. Although customs already had the facility adjacent
to Jet Aviation, the US-VISIT equipment wasn’t installed until last month.

SheltAir’s goal to add Atlanta to its growing FBO network took a major step forward last month when company officials met with the city airport authority. The agenda included negotiating lease terms in SheltAir’s bid to take over the Mercury FBO at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. SheltAir COO Ed Zwirn called the city’s positive review of notification a strong indicator that the deal would eventually come to fruition.
