Earlier this year Gestair (Booth 755) opened a new FBO facility in the former authorities pavilion at Madrid-Barajas airport, which is where all the Spanish capital’s business aviation traffic is now directed. Previously those flights had operated into Torrejón air base, but that operation has been closed down. Gestair, with 35 years experience providing business aviation services, won the initial five-year contract from AENA (Spanish airports and air navigation authority) to manage the Barajas executive terminal.

Oxford Airport, located at Kidlington (just north of the “Dreaming Spires” of the famous university town), has continued to experience growth in business aviation traffic. An 11-percent increase in business traffic during 2012, up from 6,913 movements in 2011 to 7,761, has also contributed to a 13-percent rise in jet fuel sales. This traffic increase has cemented Oxford’s position as the London region’s fifth busiest business destination and the fastest growing.

Aeropole of Payerne (Booth 650) has signed its first contract for a company to settle on its Swiss airport site. Boshung, a Swiss specialist in airport cleaning and maintenance equipment, has bought 10 acres of land to build its headquarters and a technology center. It will employ 150 in Payerne. Aeropole is also talking to other potential customers, one of them being executive charter operator Speedwings, which might build three hangars.

Dubai-based service provider Jetex Flight Support is expanding its reach in Europe and looking for new opportunities. Among its most recent developments is the opening in January of a new flight-planning lounge at London Oxford Airport, in so doing becoming the airport’s first external partner. The lounge is in the Oxfordjet FBO and comprises a newly furnished planning room with aeronautical charts and three computers for visiting aircrew.

TAG Farnborough Airport unveiled plans today at EBACE for new facilities that will include additional premium office space available for rent, and a customer-dedicated second entrance to the airport. Plans for the expansion follow the company’s recent purchase of a 38,000-sq-ft office building and associated land on the airport’s northeast boundary. The expansion will provide space in the TAG terminal for additional passenger lounges and enhanced facilities, with further details due to be announced later this year.

World Fuel Services announced today at EBACE that Harrods Aviation, located at Stansted and Luton airports, is joining its Air Elite FBO network, becoming the first facility in the UK to do so. The deal brings the total number of FBOs in the network, established by World Fuel in late 2011, to 29 worldwide. Both of Harrods’ FBOs provide convenient access to London.
