A joint venture between Air China and Lufthansa has produced one of the world’s largest MRO facilities. The 414,400-sq-ft maintenance hangar provides sufficient space to work on as many as four Airbus A380s at a time. In addition to supporting Air China’s growing fleet, it will also serve private aircraft arriving at the new Terminal 3 at Beijing’s Capital International Airport, built to support this year’s Olympics.

Wood Dale, Illinois-headquartered AAR is to provide maintenance, repair and overhaul services for the landing gear of Boeing 767-300s operated by Shanghai Airlines and the Boeing 737-800s flown by China Airlines of Taiwan. The Shanghai Airlines work will be carried out at AAR’s Miami facility.

Singapore Technologies Aerospace and the Panamanian government yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding to establish an airframe, heavy maintenance, repair and overhaul facility at the former Howard Air Force Base just west of the Panama Canal. Under the proposal, ST Aerospace would take over four existing hangars, each able to accommodate three narrowbody airplanes. It expects to commission the facility for operations early next year.
