Airbus A320 flight-test aircraft conducts i4D trial

The European Parliament has voted to extend the mission of the Single European Sky ATM Research (Sesar) Joint Undertaking (SJU) by eight years, until 2024. The organization expects the European Union Council of Ministers, the second chamber of the EU legislature, will adopt the final act extending its life this summer.

The EASA has certified the redesigned vertical bevel gear shaft for the Airbus Helicopters EC225, which has suffered in-flight failures and a nine-month grounding in 2012 and 2013. Manufacturing of the redesigned gear shaft is under way for production aircraft and for retrofits, and installations for both applications are slated to begin in the second half of this year.

Boeing CEO Jim McNerney seized the chance to impress upon securities analysts on Wednesday his confidence in the company’s ability to execute a smooth transition between production of the current 777 line and the 777X around the turn of the decade. Now delivering 8.3 of its flagship widebodies a month, Boeing expects some “feathering” of production once it approaches the point at which it fully integrates the 777X, said McNerney.

Lufthansa Technik will establish a new aviation maintenance, repair and overhaul facility in Puerto Rico for servicing short-haul and medium-haul aircraft. Agreements have now been signed with the government of Puerto Rico and the responsible port authority.

Lufthansa Technik plans to break ground on the new facility within the next three months.

Comlux has won a contract to conduct major maintenance and refurbishment work on a Boeing Business Jet “bizliner” based in Asia. The airliner-size business aircraft, operated on behalf of its private owner by Hong Kong-based management company Sino Jet, is due to arrive at the Comlux America completions center in Indianapolis during the second quarter of 2014 and will spend four months there.

The Elegance is aimed at customers who don’t want to invest the time and effort in making the nearly endless design decisions for a bizliner.

Beijing Aircraft Maintenance and Engineering (Ameco), located at Beijing Capital International Airport, introduced its “Silk Road” interior design for Airbus ACJ320s today at ABACE in Shanghai. The design uses cultural elements taken from different regions along the Silk Road of ancient China, including patterns inspired by Han Dynasty influences such as auspicious clouds, lotus and dragons. Ameco, a joint venture between Air China and Lufthansa German Airlines established in 1989, provides completion and maintenance services for private and business jets.

With the aim of easing the buying process for its customers, Airbus has introduced a new model of its ACJ319 Corporate Jet here at ABACE. Called the ACJ319 Elegance, the new derivative relieves the customer of some of the nearly endless design decisions by offering a new modular cabin that still allows them to choose from a wide range of lounge, office, dining and conference configurations.
