The Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) at RAF Fairford in the UK reports a record number of acceptances in response to invitations sent to international air forces. Approximately 250 military aircraft from 25 countries, and air chiefs from more than 40 countries, are attending the event, which takes place this weekend before the Farnborough International Airshow opens.

The 2012 Farnborough International airshow will fly in the face of still-tough business conditions, according to organizers of the biennial event, to be staged in the UK from July 9 to 15. “The last two years have seen a very difficult economic environment, but 2012 is looking like it will be a really great show,” said Farnborough International chief executive Shaun Ormrod.

In response to exhibitors’ concerns about the high cost of exhibiting on the international air show circuit, Farnborough International organizers have introduced a new schedule that will see the exhibit halls closed over the public weekend of the show (July 14-15).

ABACE organizers and exhibitors agree that the reborn show has been a great success that has put Asian business aviation firmly on the international airshow calendar. This year’s event, which ends tomorrow, fulfilled all of its objectives, according to NBAA president Ed Bolen. “We had 157 exhibitors,” he told AIN. “I’ve spoken to quite a few of them and I think its fair to say they are quite pleased with the quality of the people they are talking to.”

The Farnborough International Airshow (July 9-15, 2012) is shaping up to be not just bigger than the 2010 event but also better, according to exhibitions and events director Amanda Stainer, “with exciting new features that will captivate [attendees’] imaginations.” Exhibit areas are already 95 percent sold out, she said. Contributing to the excitement surrounding this year’s airshow are preparations for the 2012 London Olympic Game (July 27 to August 12).
