A French appeals court has overturned the manslaughter verdict against Continental Airlines resulting from the July 2000 crash of an Air France Concorde soon after takeoff from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG). The initial ruling held Continental liable for the accident on the grounds that maintenance errors caused a 16-inch piece of titanium to fall from one of the U.S. airline’s DC10s during its takeoff roll just moments before the Concorde.
In its final report into the loss of an Air France Airbus A330 over the South Atlantic on June 1, 2009, French air accident investigation agency BEA (Bureau d’Enquetes et d’Analyses) has managed to explain most–but not all–of the pitch-up inputs by the pilot who was flying the aircraft at the time of the accident during the last minutes of Air France Flight 447.
The decline of India’s Kingfisher Airlines, whose fleet has shrunk to 18 aircraft from 66, hasn’t only served to push air fares upward due to declining capacity in a high-demand market. French executive charter operator Masterjet has signed an agreement with AFI KLM Engineering & Maintenance to use its Vipjetsuite cabin interiors services. The Air France KLM airline subsidiary provides a range of MRO services, including cabin modifications. “They have always been able to meet our deadlines in a highly efficient and effective manner,” said Nuno Perestrelo, maintenance and engineering director at Masterjet.

With the potential of creating far-ranging consequences to a devastating accident more than a decade ago, the stage was set in a French court last Thursday to overturn the verdict against Continental Airlines in the July 2000 crash of an Air France Concorde supersonic transport (SST) in Paris.
In a new Air France video titled, “Flight Analysis: a key part of flight safety,” Eric Schramm, the carrier’s executive vice president of flight operations, says, “Flight safety is at the heart of our business. It’s the most important service we provide our customers.”
Boeing confirmed today that Air France-KLM Group has placed a firm order for twenty-five 787-9 Dreamliners, along with options. The sides signed the contract in late December 2011 and Boeing’s Orders & Deliveries website listed it as an order from an unidentified customer.

The refurbishment of a government Airbus A330-200 (used mainly for the president) ran €33.2 million (about $46 million) over budget, according to a recent report from the “Cour des comptes,” the French equivalent of the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO). Replacement of the engines and interior upgrades are listed as the primary reasons for the cost overrun.
