The FAA is expected to grant a supplemental type certificate within a few months to Donaldson subsidiary Aerospace Filtration Systems (AFS) of St. Louis for an inlet barrier filter system for the Bell 430. Operators have been requesting engine protection offered by the inlet filter system, according to AFS business development director Robert Stenberg.

FDC Aerofilter, a California-based company that specializes in engine inlet barrier filtration, is developing a new filter for the Eurocopter EC 135. It is slated for certification by next year. FDC is also working on extending the life expectancy of its filters. Removal intervals, currently at 1,500 hours, are to be increased to 3,000 hours within months, sales manager Ann Cooper told AIN.

Donaldson Co. announced yesterday that it has acquired Aerospace Filtration Systems (AFS) of St. Louis, Mo. The deal, which was inked on Tuesday, calls for AFS to become a wholly owned subsidiary of the worldwide supplier of filters and support. The marriage isn’t new for the two companies; they were selected as a team last year to supply integral barrier filters (IBF) for the Bell 429 and the recently canceled 417.
