Aero-Zone, which has expanded its European presence with the launch of Aero-Zone Limited in Shannon, Ireland, has hired SeanO’Brien as director of business development, Europe. The decision to locate Aero-Zone Limited in Shannon allows the company increased interaction and improved service for its clients and is in line with Aero-Zone’s ongoing strategy of housing inventory at diverse locations, suited to its clients’ needs.

Last month’s agreement for Extant Components to provide product support for the Universal Avionics Systems Aero-M and Aero-I satellite communications products is the latest example of the company’s efforts to help OEMs to more efficiently handle manufacturing and repairs for legacy or non-core electronics and avionics products. The support provided under the new licensing agreement will be handled by Extant’s Symetrics Industries subsidiary and will include unit repair and exchange services.

Corporate operator Lion Aero was looking for a good value in a light or intermediate twin-engine helicopter to meet its corporate transport needs. What the company found was a Bell 230 that had done extensive corporate service in India. It would need “substantial work,” to understate the challenge.

Aero Specialties of Boise, Idaho (Booth No. 8049), is expanding its global distribution and warehousing network by teaming up with AeroStock of France, Franke Care Systems of Germany, TDH Visions of Saudi Arabia and Movac Group of Mexico. According to Aero Specialties, each entity has its own regional distribution system that will allow the company to have a larger, more cost-effective international footprint.

Italian turboprop manufacturer Piaggio Aero, which recently announced its entry into the Brazilian market, plans to bring its business to Russia as well. The company is seeking Russian certification for its popular P.180 Avanti II twin-engine turboprop, which it expects to begin delivering in the country by April or May of next year.

Atlantic Aero has added Falcon 900 and 2000 maintenance capability to its roster of services. The company has already secured tooling, technical data, experienced personnel and a 23,660-sq-ft hangar. The new facility can house aircraft as large as ultra-long-range business jets and includes an additional 6,500 sq ft of space for support shops and office space.

Involvement in the European Space Agency’s Intermediate Experimental Vehicle program to devise re-entry technology for low-earth orbit programs has given Aero Sekur an opportunity to take its expertise in the use of lightweight, flexible structures literally into the realms of rocket science. The company was selected for the work in November 2009 and is due to complete the project by the end of this year.
