HEMS Academy, the simulator training arm of German air ambulance specialist ADAC, has announced that it will add a new Eurocopter EC145T2 full-flight simulator in 2015. This follows ADAC’s order last September for 14 new EC145T2 helicopters to replace its aging BK117 B2 fleet. The new helicopters will be equipped with the EuroAvionics EuroNav7 navigation system upgrades, which will also be included in the simulator. Meanwhile an EC145T2 systems training device will be brought online in mid-2014, allowing for web-based training on the type.
The Gulf Centre for Aviation Studies (GCAS), an arm of ADAC created in 2009, and Dubai-based Avtech Middle East, a subsidiary of Avtech Sweden, have partnered to offer training in areas such as performance-based operations, collaborative decision making, airborne CNS/ATM (Communications, Navigation and Surveillance for Air Traffic Management), auditing and human factors. The organizations said in a joint press release, “These course stand out as they are linked to real-life operational requirements and best practice and are delivered by highly experienced subject matter experts.”
German aerospace research center DLR has completed a series of flight simulator trials with a new helmet-mounted display. The testing program enlisted helicopter pilots from the German federal police, ADAC (the German Automobile Association) and German armed forces. Aimed at easing landings in poor visibility, such as brown-out or white-out conditions, the information displayed includes altitude, speed, course, attitude and obstacle situation. The device eliminates the need for pilots to constantly switch between looking outside the helicopter and checking the instrument panel.
Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) here yesterday signed memorandums of understanding with three German companies for the establishment of production facilities at the Aerospace Cluster at Al Ain, in the eastern region of the Abu Dhabi Emirate.
Eurocopter has developed its own concept of a modular helicopter to meet what it believes are the security requirements of the new generation of EU members. A basic “green” version is equipped with mission packs for one of a wide range of airborne tasks.
