Bell Helicopter has started building the facility in Lafayette, La., where it will assemble the Bell 505 Jet Ranger X light single. The $26.3 million, 82,300-sq-ft hangar, to be completed by June, is being built on a 14.5-acre site leased from Lafayette Regional Airport.

Fuelerlinx has partnered with Denmark-based flight-planning engine Aviation Cloud to enhance the multi-leg fuel-tankering calculator function in its subscription fuel-pricing service. The company previously had a rudimentary system in place that based its calculations solely on Great Circle routing and took no account of winds aloft. Since fuel represents the majority–as much as 70 percent–of a business aircraft’s operating costs, carefully planned fuel tankering can help lower these costs.

Ostend, Belgium-based helicopter operator NHV will take over Norwegian competitor Blueway, the two firms announced today. The merger will create a 650-employee group, operating 59 helicopters and generating $270 million in annual revenues.

Denver-based air charter firm Mountain Aviation was acquired by an unidentified private investment group earlier this week. Rich Bjelkevig, who founded the turboprop and jet charter firm in 1993, will continue to serve as the company’s president. Cam Kenyon, previously the executive vice president of operations at WestJet Airlines and the president of Lynx Aviation in Denver, has been appointed Mountain Aviation’s executive director.

NBAA is challenging the IRS’s position that the 7.5-percent ticket tax applies to Part 91 operations where the aircraft owner retains a management company. It has taken the dispute to the IRS itself, as well as the Treasury Department and Congress, saying these aircraft owners “simply hired a management company to provide certain support services” and shouldn’t be viewed as commercial operations subject to the ticket tax.

Attendance at LABACE, which was held earlier this month in São Paulo, Brazil, came in at 11,681 visitors, according to organizer Associação Brasileira de Aviação Geral (Abag), Brazil’s business and general aviation association. This figure is down about 2,000 from last year’s show and more than 4,000 shy of initial estimates. With a reconfigured venue at São Paulo Congonhas Airport, LABACE 2014 hosted more than 100 exhibitors and a static park displaying nearly 70 aircraft, ranging from light piston singles to ultra-long-range business jets.
