Liebherr-Aerospace (Hall 4 Stand E6) is here exhibiting its flight control and actuation systems, landing gear, air management systems and gearboxes as well as Liebherr-Elektronik electronic components. Highlights include the nose and the main landing gear of Bombardier’s CSeries aircraft, a wingtip brake for the Airbus A350 XWB, a cooling pack for the Comac C919 and a newly developed gearbox for an unnamed, next-generation helicopter program.

Electronic-component manufacturer TT Electronics-IMS is showcasing here at Farnborough International Airshow 2014 its full range of specialized manufacturing capabilities, and its accreditation by the National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program (Nadcap). The production capabilities include cable harness manufacturing and assembly, printed circuit board assembly, environmental qualification and full product integration. The company also offers manufacturing analysis expertise, such as its “Product Life Management” services.

Simulator specialist CAE has just signed a contract with the NATO Airborne Early Warning and Control program management organization to perform a major upgrade to the flight crew simulators that are used to train crews from the 16-nation joint force that flies the Boeing E-3A Awacs. This upgrade is being performed in parallel with a new flight deck upgrade for the 17-aircraft operational fleet.

Sikorsky (OE3, OE4) here on Monday announced that it has begun delivering S-76 medium twin helicopters equipped for executive transport and search-and-rescue (SAR).

Among the features that executive transport operators will enjoy, the company said, is the ability to keep the rotors static, i.e. not rotating, while running an engine to power the air-conditioning. It also claims its active vibration control and Quiet Zone transmission technology provide smooth and quiet cabin conditions, allowing normal conversations.

A proliferation of large wind farms in recent years has posed a new challenge to both air traffic control and the renewable energy industry. The rotating blades of wind turbines can appear as false aircraft returns on air traffic and other radars. This clutter can lead to radars becoming de-sensitized in the area of the wind farms, resulting in genuine aircraft tracks being all too easily lost. This phenomenon has already prevented or delayed the establishment of new wind farms due to objections from aviation authorities.

Troy, Michigan-based AGM Aerospace is launching an international supply chain collaborative here at FIA 2014. The collaborative is designed to bring Tier 1 through 5 suppliers together to “collaborate on a new methodology,” according to AGM director of aerospace Gavin Brown, “to take the cost out of the cost, using the aggregate demand model.”

The plan is to share information on a cloud-based platform to facilitate digital manufacturing. This will include engineering, modeling, simulation, production and delivery of finished components.

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems (GA-ASI) conducted the first flight of its Predator XP remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) on June 27 at the U.S. Army’s Yuma Proving Ground range complex in Arizona. The Predator XP is an unarmed export version of the iconic RPA.

The Stag Group announced at the Farnborough Air Show the launch of a new lightweight cabin divider product for commercial aircraft, weighing 25-percent less than traditionally manufactured partitions, and represented here by an Airbus A320 cabin partition the company is displaying (Hall 1 Stand A18).
