Challenger 350

The Challenger 350 will become the time-to-climb leader of the entire Bombardier business jet line once it enters service next year, Bombardier Challenger vice president and general manager Stéphane Leblanc said at a technical briefing at EBACE. Bombardier expects the super-midsize jet to reach 41,000 feet in 18 minutes, surpassing the manufacturer’s current leader, the Learjet 60.

JetNet iQ director Rolland Vincent is “very optimistic” about the outlook for business aviation in Europe, as well as the rest of the world, he said yesterday at EBACE. Over the next 10 years, the company is calling for deliveries of 9,317 business jets worth $257 billion. In 2022, the projected business jet fleet would thus reach 25,937, a 36-percent increase from the 19,016 jets flying today.

Marking a year of rapid growth since its launch at EBACE 2012, the African Business Aviation Association (AfBAA) announced this week at EBACE 2013 that it plans to stage a business aviation expo of its own next April in conjunction with the Marrakech Air Show. The expo and airshow will be held next April 23 to 26 at Marrakech Menara Airport.

AfBAA’s expo will cover 540,000 sq ft, providing room for exhibit booths, aircraft static displays and chalets.

Users of the Air Charter Guide will notice a complete redesign of the publication, starting with the June edition. The worldwide guide to charter operators now appears alphabetically by country, rather than regionally. Maps within each section have undergone a redesign and a complete worldwide index of operators will make the information much easier for subscribers to navigate. The two-column format throughout, once reserved for Metro sections, makes the directory more readable.

Rockwell Collins is warning that there are considerable risks that operators run when hooking up various web-based systems, Wi-Fi, satcoms–in fact anything where they are opening up ways for would-be cyber-attackers. Steve Timm, the company’s v-p and general manager of Flight Information Solutions, told AIN at EBACE that the main risk arises not when the aircraft is en route, but on the ground.

Cessna Aircraft introduced a treatment to protect Citation jets based in Europe from the corrosive effects of potassium formate, the environmentally friendly but aluminum-hostile runway de-icer increasingly used across the region. The treatment is available under an enhancement to Cessna’s ProTech factory maintenance program, called ProTech+. The anti-corrosion procedure entails a thorough airframe inspection and application of Corban 23, a super-penetrating fluid that creates a protective barrier on the airframe.

Sennheiser announced its new HMEC 26-2 active-noise-canceling pilot’s headset this week at EBACE. An upgrade from the HMEC 26, its new NoiseGard headset features improved wearing comfort, optimum protection against handling noise and a higher sound pressure level. The headband has been lengthened overall and the end pieces have been designed with a different angle to ensure that the headset sits more comfortably and with more evenly distributed contact pressure, the company said. It also has wider and softer cushions.

Signature Flight Support has launched its customer portal–My Signature–to give customers 24-hour access to their personalized service profile. My Signature allows operators to create and update a profile that includes service preferences, aircraft and engine information and the ability to view and reprint fuel purchase receipts. Customers can also check current fuel pricing, where applicable.

Today at EBACE, Nextant announced the sale of a second 400XT to Prague-based business jet operator Time Air, which was the first European customer for the remanufactured Beechjet 400A. Time Air managing director Martin Prazsky praised its 400XT, which has flown 600 hours in the first nine months, for having low operating cost and high dispatch reliability. In taking a second aircraft Time Air also becomes the first European fleet operator of the Nextant.

Engine monitoring services company Jet-Care announced at EBACE it has received in excess of 50,000 engine trend data sets via its iECHO GPA iPad app since introducing it at the 2011 NBAA Convention. iECHO enables pilots to gather data during steady state cruise and, once a connection is made, send the data directly to Jet-Care for processing and evaluation. Receiving the data on a flight-by-flight basis enables Jet-Care to notify the operator of any trend changes more quickly.
