Bombardier Flexjet launched an 11-city tour to showcase the Learjet 85, which will be the next aircraft type addition to its fractional fleet. Besides being able to view the Learjet 85 cabin mockup, attendees will also be able to test drive Rolls-Royce Phantom and Ghost autos and play a World Championship golf course in a Full Swing Golf simulator.
The FAA recently proposed significant fines against both Horizon Air and FedEx for alleged repeated violations of Federal Aviation Regulations. The agency wants to fine Horizon Air $1.005 million for allegedly operating 22 Bombardier DHC-8-402s on more than 186,000 revenue flights when they were not in compliance with FARs. The agency has also proposed a $681,200 penalty against FedEx for 19 different occasions when employees accepted hazardous materials for shipment and failed to tag those shipments properly and inform flight crews of their contents.
The American Antitrust Institute (AAI) and Business Travel Coalition (BTC) last week publicly released a jointly produced white paper sent to the U.S. Department of Justice that explains their opposition to the merger between US Airways and American Airlines. The 28-page report concludes that such a merger could substantially reduce competition on a number of routes, create regional strongholds at key airports across the country and starve smaller communities of air service vital to their business interests.

Bombardier today reported aerospace revenues for the second quarter increased to $2.3 billion from $2.1 billion helped by business aircraft deliveries that grew to 46 aircraft, up from 35 in the same period last year. Air traffic management solutions company NATS is collaborating with UAE-based Royal Jet to help improve the environmental performance of the air charter firm’s flights in UK airspace. The partnership will see the two parties work together to improve Royal Jet’s flight efficiency, as well as reduce fuel burn and CO2 emissions. NATS will provide Royal Jet with actual data to monitor its flight profiles.

The first airline in the Western Hemisphere to fly the current generation of 50-seat regional jets will cease all operations by the end of September. Delta Air Lines subsidiary Comair, a Bombardier CRJ operator since 1993, will fly its last passenger on September 29, marking the end of a 35-year run as one of the most recognizable names in the U.S. regional airline business.
AirAsia is locked in negotiations with Airbus over an order for between 50 and 100 aircraft that the Malaysia-based operator wants to buy to fill gaps in its aggressive expansion plans before it takes delivery of its first new A320neo narrowbody in 2016.
