Eric Hinson, most recently executive vice president of training provider FlightSafety International, has been named president of SimCom. The Fla.-based privately owned company has 56 simulators at its training centers in Glendale and Scottsdale, Ariz.; Dallas; and its Orlando, Fla. headquarters. SimCom is a factory-authorized training provider for various business aircraft, among them Cessna Citations, Hawkers, the Eclipse EA-500, Pilatus PC-12, Daher-Socata TBM, Mitsubishi MU-2 and Piper Meridian.
SimCom CEO Wally David is optimistic about growth prospects for his Orlando, Fla.-based aircraft simulator training company, even though he concedes that business has been flat over the past year. “We haven’t seen much pickup in our side of the market, which includes light and midsize jet training, as well as for pistons and turboprops,” he said. “This is because of a general lack of confidence in the economy and the many unknowns, the largest of which is the uncertainty over the U.S. elections.”
Since it acquired 14 simulators from FlightSafety International on August 17, SimCom Flight Centers has been busy relocating, refurbishing and returning these devices to service at its Dallas and Orlando training centers. Once all of these newly obtained sims are up and running, SimCom will have 59 simulators in total at its four training center locations.
Over the past year, SimCom staff at the company’s four pilot training locations have seen a clear “rightsizing” trend among its customers. “Rightsizing is the process of more closely matching the capabilities and size of the airplane to the missions being flown,” company CEO Wally David said. “Before the economic realities in today’s marketplace, it was not uncommon for a large jet to be used for a 300-mile trip.
