ARSA study underscores economic strength of MRO industry
Constant Aviation of Cleveland Hopkins International Airport has named David Bowman v-p operations. Bowman joins the organization from Honeywell International, where he spent more than 28 years in various management positions, including several years in senior leadership roles. In his last role as senior business manager, site leader, he was responsible for overseeing multiple locations within the company’s aviation electronics aftermarket repair and overhaul business. Bowman will oversee the MRO’s four locations and more than 200 employees in Cleveland.
Atlantic Aero has received FAA approval to add the Cessna Citation X to its repair station license. The MRO has invested more than $150,000 in new tooling, training and other related expenses to support Citation X certification. The company has a long history working with the type by providing interior updates for Citation X operators, and the addition of the product to Atlantic Aero’s repair license enables the facility to provide maintenance.
M1 Composites Technology recently opened an advanced composites repair facility “to meet increasing corporate, commercial and military demand,” Lorenzo Marandola, president and founder, told AIN. The 24,000-sq-ft facility features a certified clean room, large curing oven, paint finishing operation and a full complement of repair equipment.
The MRO also recently received its Transport Canada approval for composite and metallic repairs.
Magellan Aviation Group, an integrated aftermarket aviation support services provider, has chosen Quantum Control software to manage its leasing, asset management and repair operations for its worldwide customer base of airlines, OEMs and MRO companies.
Dallas Executive Airport-based AAT Aircraft Maintenance, an FAA-approved Part 145 repair station, has added several makes and models to its repair station certificate. To complement its existing approvals for the Gulfstream II/IIB/II-SP/III/IV and Hawker 700/800/800XP, it has added accreditation for the Falcon 50/50EX, Learjet 60 and King Air 200. The additional certification allows the MRO to perform light to heavy maintenance and major repairs and modifications. The MRO is also in the process of acquiring Mexican DGAC repair certification.
During his career as a pilot and operator of a charter/management company, Baker Aviation founder Stan Baker III was struck by the significant investment in aircraft maintenance required to keep an aircraft flying. He particularly remembers the aggravation of difficult maintenance issues that only seemed to compound as aircraft aged and manufacturers ceased production. Confident there was a better way to service aircraft, Baker set about building a team of experts in aircraft maintenance with backgrounds that complement one another.
Pentastar Aviation’s maintenance facility at Waterbury-Oxford Airport in Connecticut has received FAA FAR 145 satellite repair station certification. Pentastar Aviation’s satellite repair station certification reflects the expansion of maintenance services from the original repair station at Oakland County International Airport, Mich., where the MRO has maintained heavy jets, including Challengers, Falcons and Gulfstreams, for nearly 50 years. Pentastar also has a facility at Van Nuys Airport in California.
Timco Aviation Services has purchased the assets that were used by Pemco World Air Services in its former aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul operation at Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport. The company has also signed a lease agreement for the hangar previously occupied by Pemco and will use the facility to expand the existing base of business there serving regional aircraft operators.
“During our 2010 NBAA press conference we sent a clear message to the industry: we do what we say we’re going to do. In the past four years we have experienced a 16-percent compound annual growth rate, with almost 20-percent growth as we continue to evolve our CompleteCare strategy beyond the basic MRO services,” Scott Taylor, senior vice president of business aviation for StandardAero (Booth No. 2000), told AIN.
