Rockwell Collins (Booth No. 8040) is slowly introducing a new lifecycle support initiative to civil rotorcraft operators. Known as Flexforce, it is a performance-based agreement that aims to sustain lower maintenance costs for customers in a time of tightening budgets, while simultaneously improving dispatch reliability.

Maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) Vector Aerospace expects to open its new engine center at Singapore’s Seletar Aerospace Park by the end of this year. The facility is being specifically built to support Pratt & Whitney Canada PW150A turboprops and represents an investment of almost $40 million.

Last year, Pratt & Whitney Canada appointed Vector (Booth T102) as a designated overhaul facility. It will support operators of aircraft such as the Bombardier Q400 regional airliner in the Asia Pacific region.

Dallas Aeronautical Services, located 20 miles south of Dallas Love Field, is a highly specialized maintenance, repair and overhaul facility focused on a niche market. According to Mike Manning, the company’s vice president, DAS specializes in component repair.

“We do a significant amount of spares and rotables work for OEMs; however, we also work with both maintenance providers and owner/operators. Our specialization is working with clients who need a high quality but fast solution to their component repair requirements,” he told AIN.

Russian business aviation services group Avcom is stepping up its efforts to improve the company’s maintenance, repair and overhaul network by opening a new support base at Irkutsk in western Siberia. The Moscow-based company is preparing to open other MRO operations in Khabarovsk (in the far East of Russia) and Omsk in the Urals region, as well as at Samara in the west of the vast country.

Maintenance, repair and overhaul facility Professional Pilots Aircraft Maintenance (PPAM), located in the Professional Jet Center at Plymouth, Mass., was established in 2004 as part of a natural progression of PPAM’s owner Don Staszko’s life in aviation.

Staszko served in the U.S. Air Force from 1970 to 1978; he was an F-4 pilot and is a Vietnam veteran. In 1973 he traded in active duty service for the reserves, was hired by American Airlines as a Boeing 727 flight engineer and was laid off the next year, a victim of the OPEC oil embargo.

CHC maintenance, repair and overhaul subsidiary Heli-One has opened a facility in Rzeszow, Poland. Work has begun on Heli-One Poland’s first project: the major overhaul (G-Check), repaint and modification of a CHC AS322L Super Puma. By year-end “a new, customized hangar” will replace the current temporary facility. The company plans to invest “more than $15 million in building costs, purchasing, training and other expenses related to the operation.” Heli-One’s fourth major workshop location, the new site is expected to employ more than 100 people by 2015.

MRO Exchange has launched MROmarketplace.com, an online site that facilitates the procurement of aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul projects by maintenance repair organizations and other aircraft service providers.

The site “provides MROs and aircraft owner-operators with an online platform to expedite the RFP/RFQ/RFT process, enabling them more quickly to identify the most suitable worldwide transactional partners for maintenance, repair and overhaul work required on aircraft,” said Vince Mariano, CIO.
