Japan’s expansion of the international terminal at Haneda Airport in the Tokyo metropolitan area bolsters route expansion plans by its two major carriers, ANA and Japan Airlines (JAL).
The latest “issue” affecting the Boeing 787 has the manufacturer investigating improper installation of a component associated with its engine fire suppression system. Japan’s All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines on Wednesday each reported problems with at least one of their 787s that, in ANA’s case, delayed a flight from Tokyo Haneda Airport to Frankfurt for an hour and 42 minutes Wednesday morning.
Japanese authorities on Friday followed the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration in formally approving Boeing’s modifications to the 787’s battery system.
All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines have grounded their entire fleets of Boeing 787s following an emergency landing this morning by an ANA Dreamliner in western Japan.

Japan, with the world’s third largest economy (recently surpassed by China), is home to 68 of the world’s Fortune 500 companies, 52 of which are based in the greater Tokyo area. Yet the country until recently has not embraced corporate aviation.
