A ceremony commemorating the delivery of the 1,000th Embraer E-Jet last Friday not only gave the Brazilian company a chance to celebrate the success of the past 10 years, but also to offer a glimpse at what it hopes proves an equally auspicious future. An E175 painted in American Eagle livery, the 1,000th airplane went to long-time customer Republic Airways. The company placed an order for 47 of the 76-seat airplanes at the beginning of the year and holds options on another 47.
Austria’s FACC and Belgium’s Sonaca have each won contracts to supply parts of the all-new wings for the Embraer E2 jets, as the program continues to gain momentum since its launch at June’s Paris Air Show. Under the terms of the contracts, FACC will design and build composite ailerons and spoilers, while Sonaca takes responsibility for the airplanes’ carbon-fiber flaps and metallic slats.
International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC) has finalized an order for the purchase of 50 E2 E-Jets from Embraer, including 25 E190-E2s and 25 E195-E2s, the Los Angeles-based AIG subsidiary announced Wednesday. The order, originally announced as a letter of intent at last month’s Paris Air Show, also includes options for another 50 airplanes.
The second generation of Embraer’s E-Jet series of narrowbody airliners was officially launched and named E2 during last week’s Paris Air Show. Seven launch customers rallied for the christening party, supporting the Brazilian airframer with approximately $17.8 billion worth orders and commitments for up to 365 of the twinjets.
A new firm order for seven E190 airliners from Venezuela’s Conviasa led Embraer’s commercial activity here yesterday. The deal involved a conversion of options from an order placed in July 2012 and raised Conviasa’s firm order count to 13 E190s. It still holds options for another seven.
Embraer also identified Japan Airlines as the customer for an order for four more E170s. With that deal, JAL has now placed firm orders for 15 E170s.
Embraer launched the new E2 version of its E-Jets yesterday with firm orders, purchase rights, options and letters of intent totaling 350 airplanes from seven customers.
Embraer has chosen this Paris Air Show as the venue to launch its second generation E-Jet, now known as the E2. The company plans to reveal further details of the project here today and possibly announce a launch customer.
Brazilian OEM Embraer received a firm order from U.S. operator SkyWest for 40 E175 regional twinjets. SkyWest plans to operate the 76-seat aircraft under a capacity purchase agreement (CPA) with United Airlines. Another firm order for 60 of the E-Jets hinges on SkyWest’s being awarded additional CPAs with major airline partners. In addition, the acquisition agreement includes options for another 100 E175s, bringing the potential total order to 200 airplanes. If all 100 firm orders are exercised, the deal has an estimated value of $4.1 billion.
Embraer Commercial Aviation CEO Paulo Cesar de Souza e Silva said he sees requests for proposals coming from U.S. airlines for between 200 and 400 regional jets in the 70- to 76-seat market segment as relaxed scope clauses continue to drive demand on this side of the Atlantic while a “pause” in Europe takes hold.
