FltPlan is offering its free aircraft weight-and-balance program via its website and mobile apps for more than 400 models. Since the program was launched 18 months ago, pilots have created 38,000 customized aircraft weight-and-balance profiles. In the past six months alone, FltPlan has added 165 aircraft models, ranging from a Cessna 150 to a Gulfstream G280. The cross-platform format works on the web, as well as on iOS, Android and BlackBerry devices, FltPlan said.
David Gray, CEO and founder of Flight Display Systems (Booth N3124), said here at NBAA 2013 that his company has delivered some 30 to 40 Jet Jukebox HD multimedia players with a wireless router to operators. “Our vision is all about wireless,” he said. “People don’t need Internet access all the time, but they do want to use their personal electronic devices.”
Android-based devices are the least secure platforms for pilot electronic flight bags and onboard entertainment systems, according to EFB and cabin avionics solutions provider Allegient Systems. The company cited a recent DHS/FBI study showing that 79 percent of mobile device malware/viruses are for the Google Android operating system, due to its market share and open-source architecture.
This week at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, John and Martha King of King Schools have announced release of a free iOS app that connects to King Schools Online Knowledge Test Courses, allowing customers to download the course video lessons. The means the video lessons can be viewed at any time, with our without an Internet connection, which King Schools said is “a great solution when traveling or when connected to a cellular data service with a limited data plan.”
Lightspeed Aviation unveiled its top-of-the-line headset, the Zulu PFX, yesterday at EAA AirVenture. The headset retails for $1,100 and offers enhanced dynamic active noise reduction technology over the company’s Zulu.2, in a slimmer and lighter package. It also features an enhanced version of the company’s FlightLink software, which allows streaming audio through a free iOS app. The company expects to begin Zulu PFX deliveries in September.
Jet Support Services (JSSI) launched the MyJSSI Mobile App for clients with Apple or Android devices. It streamlines the process for submitting monthly hours and allows customers to manage contracts, make payments and update contact information from their mobile devices. MyJSSI also allows JSSI to push notifications to its customers. New features include an intuitive navigational design, a program-selection tool that provides specific program information by aircraft type, Google map integration, interactive media and a FAQ section.

Blue Sky Network recently launched its new SkyRouter iOS and Android mobile applications that can provide real-time aircraft fleet tracking on the go. SkyRouter is a cloud-based solution that can track a company’s aircraft that are equipped with Blue Sky Network’s Iridium tracking and communication services. Features of the New SkyRouter mobile apps include GPS location, fleet asset lists, breadcrumb mapping, active asset indication, automated event reports and drill-down on asset events.

Prices for digital JeppView subscriptions have dropped, under a new program Jeppesen is offering where buyers can opt for two to four installs of the data. Previously JeppView came with four installations or product keys. The new system will save owners and operators about 35 percent when choosing just two installs versus four, according to Jeppesen. The new JeppView pricing structure will be available when Jeppesen releases version 2.0 of its Mobile FliteDeck application, expected at the end of this month.
