GE Aviation this week reported that testing on the high pressure compressor (HPC) module for the GE9X engine that will power Boeing’s 777X aircraft continues to yield “very promising results,” achieving a 27:1 pressure ratio–the highest of any commercial aircraft engine. The tests began in September at the GE Oil & Gas testing facility in Massa, Italy, and the module has accumulated close to 300 hours of testing today.

Embraer delivered 53 business jets in the fourth quarter, closing the year with shipments of 119 executive jets (90 light and 29 large) and meeting its 2013 delivery guidance. At year-end, its firm-order backlog for both executive jets and airliners stood at $18.2 billion.

Rockwell Collins has named Craig Olson vice president and general manager for business and regional systems. He succeeds Jeff Standerski, who was recently named senior vice president for information management services. Olson will report to Kent Statler, executive vice president and COO of commercial systems. Olson has more than 27 years of service with Rockwell Collins and has held multiple leadership positions, including his previous role as senior director and site leader of the company’s head-up guidance systems business, based in Wilsonville, Ore.

On Saturday December 28, the Legacy 450, Embraer’s newest business jet, took to the air for the first time, according to the manufacturer.

Flown by company test pilots Eduardo Camelier and Eugênio Cará along with flight-test engineer Carlos Kobayashi, the twinjet successfully demonstrated its handling and performance characteristics during the hour and thirty-five minute flight.

Rockwell Collins completed its acquisition of communications and systems integration specialist Arinc late on Monday. The avionics group, which paid The Carlyle Group $1.4 billion for Arinc, said that the integration of its new division should be complete within six to nine months. “With this move we take a major leap forward to realizing our vision of providing a richer set of seamless information management solutions that encompass the aircraft and ground-based systems,” said Rockwell Collins CEO and president Kelly Ortberg.

Ethiopian Airlines signed a 10-year “OnPoint” maintenance agreement with GE Aviation for its GE90 engines. Under the agreement, GE (Pavilion A9) will maintain GE90 engines on 16 Ethiopian Boeing 777s. OnPoint agreements are customized service agreements tailored to the operational and financial needs of airline customers, GE said. The agreements are designed to help lower customers’ cost of ownership and maximize their use of assets.
