Toronto-based Porter Airlines has joined the Regional Airline Association (RAA), the Washington, D.C. lobbying and industry advocacy group announced last month. With Porter’s enrollment, the RAA now counts 29 airline members.

NoJetsTO, a grassroots anti-airport movement around Toronto’s Billy Bishop Airport (CYTZ), packed a July 2 airport executive committee meeting to tell Toronto’s mayor they oppose opening the airport to jets, a move that also requires Runway 8/26 be extended to accommodate those aircraft. The airport currently does not accept jet aircraft. The move began not long after Porter Airlines announced a conditional purchase order for Bombardier CSeries jets.
Toronto-based Porter Airlines on Wednesday revealed itself as the “unidentified Americas-based” customer for the Bombardier CSeries. The purchase agreement, still subject to certain conditions including relaxing the airport’s limitations on jet operations, calls for a firm order for 12 CS100s and options on another 18.
Air Canada announced plans last month to transfer its fifteen 73-seat Embraer E175s to regional affiliate Sky Regional Airlines under the two companies’ existing capacity purchase agreement (CPA). Air Canada plans to start the transition in February and deliver the last airplane to Toronto-based Sky Regional in June.
Officials in California have unanimously approved an environmental plan that could make March Air Reserve Base near Riverside, Calif., much more accommodating to private aircraft operators by 2014. The base, which features a 13,300-foot primary runway, has permitted private aircraft operations with prior approval only since 2008 and has a rudimentary trailer-based FBO to supply the few private aircraft arrivals with jet-A, the only fuel currently available.
