AgustaWestland has chosen Thales’s Flash Compact range of dipping sonars to equip Lynx helicopters for export markets. According to Thales, the lightweight sonars, featuring a fully electric reeling machine, allow smaller helicopters to have high-performance sonar capability for anti-submarine warfare.

Embraer released its 2013 outlook yesterday, forecasting delivery of between 105 and 120 business jets this year, up from 99 last year. The forecast is for delivery of up to 90 light and 30 large-cabin business jets, compared with 77 and 22, respectively, last year. The company’s executive aviation segment is expected to contribute 25 percent of Embraer’s revenues this year.

Hawker Beechcraft, which is displaying a King Air 350i this week at Aero India in Bangalore, continues to lead the turboprop market segment in India. Citing JetNet data, the company said 82 percent of the new turboprop business aircraft delivered into India from 2002 to 2011 were King Airs, while 83 percent of the total fleet of registered business turboprops in the country are King Airs. It has also cornered the turboprop market for state and federal organizations in India, with these operators flying more than 20 King Airs in the country.

India’s defense minister A K Antony today admonished the country’s Defense Research Development Organization (DRDO) for “delays in delivery” and said he was “impatient” to see completion of the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) program. Antony was addressing the “Aerospace products- challenges in design to deployment” seminar held as part of the biennial Aero India show in Bangalore.
