If the industry is in recovery, AAR is in the vanguard. Despite a shortage of technicians worldwide, AAR has successfully been in growth mode since the FAA bestowed its blessing on a new maintenance facility in Duluth, Minn. last October.

AAR has signed an agreement with the Chennault International Airport Authority to open its sixth North American aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility in Lake Charles, La., at Chennault International Airport. AAR will occupy approximately 520,000 sq ft of MRO service and administrative space at the facility and will be capable of supporting maintenance operations for all widebodies.

Earlier this month AAR (Hall 3, B117) shifted responsibility for order management of its composite flat-panel and standard products to its distribution and supply chain operation, along with distribution and customer support responsibilities.

In Afghanistan, soldiers still pull the trigger. Civilian contractors do almost everything else. While the U.S. and its allies may be preparing for a troop draw-down there next year, for the contractors flying an assortment of 50 helicopters in country, things have never been busier or better.

Finding skilled welders is an industry-wide challenge, causing AAR to rethink the answer with a public-private partnership with Goldsboro, N.C.’s Wayne Community College. Working in partnership, the two have designed an eight-week welding certificate program to address a shortage of welders at AAR Mobility Systems. A spokesman for the company said it typically takes a year to earn a welding diploma at Wayne.

If you’re an aircraft mechanic and you love the outdoors, you might like to know that AAR is in Minneapolis today interviewing for positions at its Duluth, Minn. single-aisle MRO facility. AAR is holding walk-in interviews from 1 to 7 p.m. today at the Radisson Hotel Bloomington by Mall of America.

AAR Aircraft Services is holding a Martin Luther King Day of Service job fair on January 21 from noon to 6 p.m. at its Indianapolis maintenance center. The company has 70 job openings for aircraft and avionics technicians, including 20 positions for lead technicians, supervisors and inspectors. AAR is also hiring for positions at facilities in Duluth, Minn.; Miami; Oklahoma City, Okla.; and Hot Springs, Ark.

The FAA has given the green light to AAR for its new aircraft maintenance facility in Duluth, Minn. The addition of the Duluth facility increases AAR’s worldwide aircraft maintenance capacity by approximately 10 percent. Duluth joins AAR facilities in Indianapolis; Oklahoma City; Miami; and Hot Springs, Ark., as part of the company’s nationwide “1MRO” network.

AAR has plans to reopen the former Northwest Airlines maintenance facility in Duluth, Minn.

AAR has signed a letter of intent with the city of Duluth, Minn., to reopen the maintenance facility previously operated by Northwest Airlines.
