The first formal agreement between a major global avionics manufacturer and a Russian-based aviation solutions provider was enacted via a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between Rockwell Collins (Booth No. 8040) and St. Petersburg, Russia-based Transas Aviation.

Airbus Helicopters (Booth No. 523) is introducing a “pay as you fly” component support program (CSP) for operators of new and used helicopters. The program features “aggressive” flat per-flight-hour charges billed monthly and has a flexible buy-in. It includes customized customer maintenance forecasting. The Airbus CSP will initially be available for all EC120, EC130, AS350, AS355, EC135, EC145, EC155, AS365, AS332 and EC225 models.
Shreveport, La.-based Metro Aviation (Booth No. 415), owner of the Helicopter Flight Training Center in Shreveport, announced at Heli-Expo that Air Medical Group Holdings (AMGH) is its launch customer for simulator training. AMGH and Metro signed a four-year training agreement using the EC135 level-D full-motion simulator as well as the AS350 and Bell 407 Level 7 flight training device.
Mesa, Ariz.-based Able Aerospace (Booth No. 4402) announced at Heli-Expo 2014 that it will be the only MRO to stock and distribute Northwest Dynamics’s soon-to-be PMA’d line of Bell rotor brake components and assemblies. These parts fit the Bell 206 and 207 helicopters.
“Adding NDI’s rotor brake parts to our more than 8,000 other PMA parts means tens of thousands of dollars in savings on parts that are the same fit and function as new OEM parts,” said Anthony Saenz, president of Able Aerospace.
Rockwell Collins (Booth No. 8040) opened Heli-Expo 2014 with announcements that its new MFD-268P2B multifunction displays are now standard equipment on Sikorsky S-92 medium-lift helicopters.
Available on new S-92s delivered this year, the MFD-268P2B offers improved color stability and readability for high-angle, cross-cockpit viewing. The displays may also be upgraded, with provisions for installation of synthetic vision, H-TAWS terrain awareness and the company’s MultiScan weather radar systems.
FreeFlight Systems (Booth No. 4513) and the University of North Dakota (Booth No. 3440) received FAA supplemental type certificate (STC) approval in the Bell 206B for the FreeFlight RANGR FDL-978-XVR. This installation is now the first rule-compliant 978 MHz ADS-B IN/OUT universal access transceiver (UAT) for rotorcraft. The company and the school jointly developed the technology with contributions from the FAA’s Center for General Aviation Research (CGAR), as well as a consortium of universities.
Canadian aviation services provider Cadorath Group has completed a nearly $1 million renovation to its chrome-plating facility. Among the upgrades are new plating tanks, the latest rectifiers, improved pollution control and a modern air scrubber to meet current and future environmental standards. Chrome plating is used to repair and protect areas of components that are prone to wear. “Chrome plating is what started our aerospace companies,” said CEO Gerry Cadorath.
Avpro (Booth No. 1411) is pleased with the business the company is transacting at this year’s Heli-Expo. In just the first day of the show the company said it signed an agreement to purchase a new Airbus Helicopters EC145T2 for an undisclosed customer. By day two of Heli-Expo the company announced that it reached an agreement to purchase three Bell 505 X helicopters; one of those will go to its management partner L.J. Aviation in Latrobe, Pa.
SRT Helicopters (Booth No. 108) recently completed a specialized training contract with Canadian operator Great Slave Helicopters, allowing the Northern Territories operator to conduct hoist and human external load (Class D) operations in Peru.
“We were very impressed with how quickly we were able to put the schedule together, and with SRT’s help in ensuring that we had the right equipment and the right mix of pilots and hoist operators,” Great Slave general manager Corey Taylor said.
Oxnard, Calif.-based AeroComputers (Booth No. 4813) took advantage of Heli-Expo 2014 to highlight the work it is doing with Aeromot Aeronaves e Motores to coordinate a 12-state, 36-helicopter mission to provide airborne security for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, to be held this summer in Brazil.
