Sikorsky has selected BAE Systems to develop an active pilot inceptor system for the U.S. Army UH-60M Black Hawk program. The new system will replace the mechanical pilot controls on the current UH-60 with active technology that saves weight and provides pilots with intuitive tactile cues for easier handling and reduced workload.

Crane Aerospace & Electronics, whose recent successes include selection to provide a new-generation doors and slides control system for the Airbus A330/340 and the on-board tire and brake monitoring system for the Boeing 777, is developing a flight data simulation and maintenance trend-monitoring program to provide proactive product support to airlines.

Jeppesen and Rockwell Collins have teamed up to offer a customer-focused, flexible electronic flight bag (EFB) to airline and military operators. The agreement between the two companies allows them to provide compatible EFB solutions that may include all or part of Jeppesen’s software and data offerings with all or part of Rockwell Collins hardware, software, service and support offerings.
Sagem Defense Securite is offering helicopter cockpit enhancements based upon LCD displays and two-axis autopilots. The company, part of the French Safran group (Stand A717), has already obtained supplemental type certificates for several rotorcraft. The price of the new product, dubbed the integrated cockpit display system (ICDS), ranges from $40,000 to $90,000–not including the installation kit.

China’s red-hot air cargo export market is expected to cool somewhat this year, but domestic demand for new freighters is projected to take off. That was the consensus from last week’s Airfreight Asia conference, held in Shanghai. During the event, EADS-EFW and China Eastern Airlines signed a deal to convert three A300-600s to freighter configuration, with more to come.
