An integrated class-3 electronic flight bag developed by Boeing for airliners will now be offered for retrofit in the Boeing Business Jet and BBJ2.

Innovative Solutions & Support has introduced a new RVSM product package that will support one-off certifications for aircraft operators that must pursue nongroup approval. The RVSM-compliant integrated air-data display system (IADDS) consists of an air-data display unit (ADDU) and an installation configuration module (ICM) that can be installed in a wide variety of aircraft, the company said.
Bombardier has completed flight development testing of its enhanced vision system (EVS), a HUD-coupled package that uses a CMC Electronics infrared sensor and head-up display manufactured by Thales. The system has started certification flight testing, a regimen that Bombardier said will result in an amendment to the Global Express type certificate in next year’s first quarter.
Raytheon Aircraft has selected airborne telecommunications equipment company AirCell’s ST3100 Iridium-based satcom system as standard equipment on the Beechcraft King Air 350 and as an option on the B200.
Hoping to cash in on new types of airborne communications capabilities, Airbus has combined forces with SITA and Tenzing to form an in-flight service called OnAir, the European airframe integrator announced last month. Starting next year, the joint venture will offer broadband Internet connections and satcom service, with the eventual goal being airborne personal cellphone links by 2006.
Honeywell on October 10 successfully flight tested new technology that will let passengers use their personal cellular telephones in flight. The trial proved that the technology works under actual flight conditions and will not compromise safety or interfere with the ground cell network, the company said. Current FCC rules do not permit cellphone use in flight.
Notching an important contract win, CMC Electronics announced last month that it has been selected to provide the infrared (IR) camera/sensor package for the Rockwell Collins Flight Dynamics integrated EVS/HUD in the Dassault Falcon line, ending months of speculation about which supplier would land the coveted contract.
In 1999, Motorola’s ill-starred Iridium satcom venture declared bankruptcy and was on the verge of maneuvering the service’s 66 satellites to burn up in the atmosphere. Today, officials at the re-established satcom operation are promoting the company’s rapidly growing customer base and line of service offerings.
Assembly and integration of the Aviation Technology Group Javelin prototype continues to accelerate at Soloy in Olympia, Wash. The company has joined the front and rear sections of the fuselage and will soon mate the wing with the fuselage. Electrical, flight control and fuel system components have been arriving from their respective suppliers and are now being installed.
Cessna announced last month that it is upgrading the Citation CJ1 and CJ2 to add more value to the entry-level aircraft. To be known as the CJ1+ and CJ2+, the improved twinjets will incorporate many of the refinements built into the CJ3, including the larger sibling’s more feature-laden version of the Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 integrated avionics system, in addition to other improvements.
