Atlantis Systems International (ASI) of Ottawa, Ontario, has developed what it calls a helicopter vocational trainer for autorotation (HVT) and is demonstrating its finesse in Heli-Expo Booth No. 4401. Ian McIntyre, v-p of marketing and sales for ASI, said the HVT provides a small-footprint, completely immersive environment to train pilots in difficult maneuvers or to simulate the most dangerous landing sites.

Aerospace Integration Corp. (AIC) of Mary Esther, Fla., is scheduled to open a 100,000-sq-ft aircraft completion center next February, on the grounds of the Albertville (Ala.) Municipal Airport. The $12 million completion center is meant to quickly “missionize” both U.S. Army and civil green aircraft by gathering a diversity of contractors under a single roof to achieve what AIC has termed block modifications, or “block mods.”

The Wescam division of L-3 Communications is here with the first installation of its new MX-15i imaging turret installed on a UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency S-92 located at the Sikorsky booth. The S-92 installation was done by Sikorsky’s Keystone Helicopter division. The UK Coastguard purchased another MX-15i, and AgustaWestland has ordered two.

The FAA made a hard sell yesterday to offshore oil operators that will soon have the opportunity to receive unprecedented traffic and weather information in the cockpit via ADS-B (automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast) technology–if they equip their helicopters with special equipment that can receive and display
the information.

Helitowcart (Booth No. 3501) introduced its HeliCushion kit for “instant refurbishing” of Eurocopter AS 350 and AS 355 seats. The “ready-to-go” kit consists of molded foam buildup and cover and is designed to slide into place in seconds and fit all seating positions.

Metro Aviation is celebrating 25 years in the helicopter completion, maintenance services and commercial flight operations business with the announcement at Heli-Expo of a move to a new facility it describes as “one of the largest of its kind in the United States.” Scheduled to open in June this year in Shreveport, La., the new digs will total 160,000 sq ft.

Barco introduced its MDU-2000 line of mission display units at Booth No. 441 here at Heli-Expo. The Belgian company said the MDU-2000 displays deliver high-performance cockpit technology yet are cost-effective as displays for a cabin-grade airborne mission.
