This year’s Aviation Insurance Association (AIA) conference, held from April 28 to May 1 in Palm Springs, Calif., convened in the atmosphere of an aircraft insurance market that is putting smiles on the faces of aircraft operators while underwriters and brokers tussle in a highly competitive business environment.

Boeing Business Jets gathered momentum last year with sales of 23 aircraft valued at about $3 billion. As of mid-May, Eclipse Aviation had begun construction of Eclipse 500 number 62, and numbers 15 and 16 had received their certificates of airworthiness, according to Michael McConnell, Eclipse vice president of marketing and sales. Number 14 was delivered during the week of May 7.
Phoenix-based engine and avionics manufacturer Honeywell says its 10,000-pound-thrust engine contender is well under way. Ron Rich, the company’s director of advanced technologies, told AIN that parts for the company’s HTF10000 demonstrator have already been ordered, with the core engine expected to be operational by the end of next year.
Brazilian airframer Embraer last month announced slightly improved first-quarter revenue (Brazil’s fiscal calendar mirrors the yearly calendar) over the same period last year, though reduced deliveries and continued supply-chain issues resulted in a net profit decrease for the company. Net revenue for the first quarter was up 4.3 percent, to $843.4 million, compared with $808.3 million a year ago.

The Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local 1108, which represents pilots for fractional provider Flight Options, claimed last month that some pilots were fired for their inability to receive Canpass authorization. According to the union, Flight Options management recently fired or otherwise forced out about half a dozen pilots over what
it said amounted to simple traffic violations.
