GE Aviation has won a contract from Boeing to provide a range of components for the Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey military vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft. The five-year deal covers 167 V-22s and is worth about $15 million, said GE, which will supply primary and secondary lighting controllers, forward cabin control station, hydraulic fluid level monitor and ramp door control panel.

Thales is to supply the General Administration of Civil Aviation of China with an Airbus A320 Standard 1.5.0 level-D full-flight simulator and an A320-configured Thales formation systems trainer.
Irish regional airline Aer Arran has selected Meggitt group subsidiary Dunlop Aerospace Braking Systems (DABS) to support its ATR 72 twin-turboprop fleet, including replacement aircraft currently on order. DABS is continuing to invest in research and development to improve its ATR 72 wheels and brakes, with plans for an advanced anti-oxidation system to enhance performance.
Aircraft-maintenance company SR Technics (SRT) has become exclusive component-services provider for all First Choice Airways’ Airbus and Boeing aircraft, following conclusion of a five-year “integrated component solutions” agreement covering the carrier’s seven Airbus A320s.
The Austrian air force has signed a new deal with Saab Aerotech, covering the long-term support of the Saab 105OE. The agreement replaces one that also covered the Draken, but the Mach 2 fighter was withdrawn at the endof 2005 to be replaced by ex-Swiss F-5s. Saab Aerotech supplies integrated support solutions to a variety of customers in the defense and civil markets.
As Saab celebrates its 70th birthday this year (and 50 years at the Paris Air Show), the company is on the verge of a major technology demonstration program of the Gripen NG that will ensure the viability of the JAS 39 Gripen fighter “well beyond 2040,” according to Gripen International managing director Johan Lehander.
The Federal Aviation Administration is to leverage the U.S. Air Force’s experience with synthetic fuel, FAA Administrator Marion Blakey said here on Tuesday during a press conference. Under the Commercial Aviation Alternative Fuels Initiative (CAAFI), the FAA is studying solutions to replace today’s Jet-A1 kerosene. Looked for are fuels with smaller carbon dioxide (CO2) footprints. The results of two studies are due this September.
