Zurich, Switzerland-based VistaJet Holding today announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Bombardier Aerospace’s Skyjet International, a “global business jet charter service,” for an undisclosed amount. Skyjet has offices in London, Hong Kong and Dubai. According to VistaJet, the deal propels the charter firm to the number-two position outside North America and allows it to expand operations worldwide.

Phil Boyer, the former broadcast executive who guided AOPA through some of its most turbulent times, announced yesterday that he will step down as AOPA president at the end of this year. He will be succeeded by Craig Fuller, a former White House aide under two presidents and currently executive v-p at the international lobbying shop APCO Worldwide.

Central U.S. regional fractional provider Executive AirShare (EAS) last week signed an agreement to acquire 18 Embraer Phenom 100 delivery slots from Clearwater, Fla.-based Avantair, which offers shares in Piaggio Avanti twin turboprops. EAS also has an option to buy Avantair’s two remaining Phenom 100 positions. The move ends Avantair’s plans for the 20 very light jets, which the company ordered in October 2006.

Piper Aircraft today said that the PiperJet proof of concept’s Williams FJ44-3AP engine was started and tested on June 19, describing the first on-ship run and subsequent operational tests as “flawless.” After the initial engine starts and operational checks were completed, the single-engine PiperJet moved forward under its own power for the first time.

Duluth, Minn.-based Cirrus Design rolled out its single-engine jet prototype on Thursday, almost a year to the day after it unveiled a cabin mock-up to customers and the press. The company has started engine and ground runs on the airplane in anticipation of first flight, which could be conducted as early as this month. Dubbed “V1” by Cirrus, the prototype (N280CJ) is registered to “Cirrus Jet Co.,” according to FAA records.

Alenia Aeronautica has completed destructive testing on the horizontal stabilizer of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the companies announced today. The test took place at Alenia’s Pomigliano plant in Naples, Italy, in the presence of Boeing engineers and representatives of the FAA and European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). Alenia manufactures the stabilizer at its plant in Foggia, Italy.
