Aviation Specialties Unlimited (Booth No. 3033) has been awarded the first FAA supplemental type certificate (STC) for installation of night-vision equipment on the AgustaWestland AW139 medium helicopter. The installation was done for Era Helicopters. Overall, ASU has performed more than 500 night-vision goggle (NVG) cockpit modifications on a wide variety of helicopter makes and models.
Cool City Avionics wants to create a light helicopter autopilot market.
Named after the Texas city near Mineral Wells where it is located, Cool City Avionics (Booth No. 4753) is taking a modular approach to certifying light helicopter stability augmentation and autopilot systems. The goal is to maintain component commonality and use proven automatic flight control design concepts while employing current technology.
Air Medical Resource Group ordered seven Eurocopter AS350B3e rotorcraft at Heli-Expo, becoming the launch customer for the new model AStar introduced at this year’s convention. A more powerful version of the AS350B3, it’s powered by a Turbomeca Arriel 2D turboshaft engine and new generation Fadec. Certification is planned for this summer and deliveries are scheduled to begin by year’s end.

Russian helicopter operator UTair signed an agreement to purchase 15 Eurocopter EC175 medium utility rotorcraft at Heli-Expo yesterday, three years after signing a letter of intent at Heli-Expo 2008 when the aircraft was first introduced. Deliveries of the 16-passgenger EC175 to UTair will commence in 2013 and the order will be completed in 2014.
