Baldwin Aviation of Hilton Head Island, S.C., and CAP Aviation Consulting Group of Daytona Beach, Fla., have combined products to bring aircraft operators an unusual, perhaps even unique, Web-based program that provides safety management with flight-data monitoring. The offering, called “Power of Plus,” is being shown here at Heli-Expo for the first time, at Baldwin Aviation’s booth (No. 2713).

Citing a backlog of more than ?10 billion ($12.8 billion) and increases in both revenue and orders during the first nine months of 2008 compared to the same period the year before, AgustaWestland executives on Saturday night said they remain “reasonably and realistically optimistic” about the future of their company as well as that of the industry at large.

Eurocopter CEO Lutz Bertling rebuffed concerns about how his company would fare in the face of the ongoing global economic crisis by stressing the company’s market dominance and its commitment to conserving euros. “Cash is king,” he said, adding that Eurocopter has improved its cash position and dramatically reduced production lead times–by 35 percent–over the last year and that the company has “exceeded our efficiency goals.”

RotorWay (Booth No. 1334), well known for its successful, piston-powered  A600 Talon two-seat kit-built helicopters, announced yesterday it is taking a big step up in the market with plans for an FAA-certified, two-seat turbine helicopter that it hopes to have flying in time for the EAA AirVenture show this July.

Russian air transport giant UTair Aviation (Booth No. 1225) took center stage at Heli-Expo to sign an agreement with Eurocopter (Booth No. 2754) for the creation of an approved maintenance center for the OEM’s products and to work jointly on a new corporate interior design for the EC 175.

Ballots for the election of three new board members were available at the HAI Annual Membership Breakfast and Meeting yesterday morning. Counting of the ballots took place last night and the new board members will be announced at this evening’s “Salute to Excellence” Awards Dinner.

A Sikorsky Aircraft S-300CBi slated for delivery to Olive Branch, Miss.-based AirVenture Flight Center is on display here at Heli-Expo’09 (Booth No. 1740). The manufacturer held a delivery ceremony Sunday morning to mark the event. The S-300CBi (S/N 0352) is AirVenture’s “first venture into the helicopter marketplace,” according to Dave Horton, general manager of Sikorsky’s light helicopter division.
