The three customers for the new-generation jump jet (the U.S. Marine Corps, the U.K. and Italy) lined up to sing its praises. Test pilot Graham Tomlinson from BAE Systems was on hand to describe the maiden flight.

Antonov, responding to “strong market demand,” has launched a stretched version of its much-delayed 86-passenger An-148 regional passenger aircraft. The An-148-200 would seat 99 passengers in single-class and be ready for service entry in 2010, said Antonov general designed Dmytro Kiva. “We have identified a market for more than 200 aircraft out to 2015,” he said. “We’ll be ready to flight test the aircraft in 2009.
The backlog of orders for Sukhoi’s Superjet 100 regional airliner passed into three figures yesterday when Russia’s AviaLeasing signed a heads of agreement for 24 of the 95-seat model and options for 16 more. Here at Farnborough today, Sukhoi is expected to announce a breakthrough order from a Western operator.
Further delay to the Airbus A400M military transport now seems inevitable. “There’s an obvious risk of slippage,” Carlos Suarez, head of EADS Military Transport Aircraft (MTA), said here at Farnborough. The first A400M ceremonially rolled out from the brand-new final assembly line building at Seville, Spain, on June 26.
International Aero Engines has logged orders for $1.4 billion worth of V2500 engines at Farnborough. With more than 5,000 powerplants in service or on order, the company’s long-term future would seem to look secure.
Bombardier Aerospace yesterday signed a contract with China’s Shenyang Aircraft Corp. (SAC) to supply the center fuselages for the newly launched C-Series family of single-aisle airliners.
The contract between Bombardier and SAC is an integral part of the relationship with the state-owned aviation-industrial entity China Aviation Industry Corp. (AVIC I), of which SAC is a subsidiary.
L-3 Communications announced here at Farnborough a number of significant contracts. From the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory comes a $34 million indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract for L-3 Wescam’s MX series of 15-inch and 20-inch EO/IR sensor turrets. Deliveries begin immediately and are intended for use in the airborne reconnaissance low and persistent threat detection system (PTDS) programs.
